After my final class, which ended around noon, I was sitting in the library nervously picking at my nail polish while I waited for Sawyer. Checking my watch for the fifth time I notice he's almost fifteen minutes later than usual. I debate on whether I should leave, when I spot him speed walking down the aisle frantically, books and papers almost falling from his hands.
"Banannie. I'm so sorry i'm late. I had to wait for professor Pokey Town to grade my paper. I swear he read it like three times."
A small giggle fell from my lips. Sawyer hated his English professor, always complaining that he does everything at an abnormally slow pace. I can see why that would drive him nuts as he is the kind of person who does what they need to do faster than the speed of light and barely stops to take a breath.
"It's fine Soy Sauce. Want me to help you pack your things?"
"No I got it." He says as he stuffs all his paper in between the slots of his textbooks in his shoulder bag. Its amazing how this boy never loses anything considering how sloppy he is. I grab my bag, sling it over my shoulder and re-situate my book against my hip as we leave the library. We make our way across the courtyard toward the parking lot, neither of us saying a word. Sawyer is the first to break the silence.
"Nervous?" He questions.
"A little. I just hope I didn't forget anything." I sigh as I fling my bag into the passenger seat of my Audi. I turn towards Sawyer and it's obvious he catches the nervous glint in my eyes because he immediately pulls me into a hug.
"You will do fine."
"But what if I-"
"Annie. You are going to crush it. I promise."
"I hope you're right."
With another quick hug goodbye, I climb in my car and begin my journey back to London, but instead of heading to my apartment like usual I make my way over to Pinset Masons, one of the top law firms in London. I had an interview set up for two o' clock for an internship that I desperately needed. Money had never been hard for me to obtain because of my parents. Up until now they paid for everything. But now that I attend law school, they agreed to pay for my college tuition and aside from that I was on my own. Until I got into law school I was living off paychecks I got from working at a fancy restaurant in the city. Once I started school again I quit my job as a waitress and decided an internship would be the smartest way to go. Luckily law internships pay you a decent amount of money, or at least the one I'm interviewing for does.
When I find a spot in the parking garage I shut off the car and notice that my hands have begun to shake. Checking the time I notice I have a good 30 minutes until I need to head inside. I take a few minutes to give myself a pep talk and calm my nerves. After about five minutes I give up when the butterflies are still present in my stomach and my hands still shaky. Before I talk myself out of walking into that building I grab my things and make my way to the entrance. When I make it to the front doors, I freeze. The building is huge, the top piercing the sky. The rest of the city reflected off the glass that coated the building. I take a deep breath, straighten my back, and readjust my bag before striding confidently through the huge doors and up to the front desk. A boy about my age with light brown hair styled up off his forehead was sitting in the chair behind it. He wore a black button up shirt with a cream tie, wrapped tightly around his neck. He stopped typing on his keyboard when he noticed me walk up to the desk, his chocolate, brown eyes meeting mine, and a wide smile taking over his face.
"Welcome. How can I help you?"
"Hi my name is Annie Scott. I have an interview with a Mr. Styles." I say confidently. Okay. Not so bad, I can do this.
