*AVERY*
"Skye!" Matt yelled after Skylar and tried to go after him. Only seconds after he'd exited Matt was entering again. "I don't know how that boy is so damn fast." Matt sighed and ran a hand through his hair.
"Are you his father?" Officer Miller asked.
"Yes." Matt said as he pulled at his tie.
"I'm sorry, but I'm gonna have to put a warrant out for him." Officer Miller said looking none too sad.
"Please, he really is a good kid. Please-" Matt stood up and I began biting my lip.
"Did you accuse him of doing this?" I realized it had been my voice and was startled slightly by the disgust in it.
"Ma'am, you have to understand. I was only asked routine questions and he grew more and more defensive. I asked him where he was before the break in occurred, he said on the bus on his way here, but when asked he said there was no one who could verify this." He said blankly as if discussing what he'd ate for dinner last night.
"So, what? He said he was on a bus, interview the bus driver that picked up by the school and dropped off near here. Skylar skips all the time so I'm positive they've become familiar with him. What gave you the right to accuse him, huh? He couldn't have done it because he was with me under the sink." My tone was extremely defensive and almost cold. I bet I would've done Skylar proud.
"You were scared, maybe you only thought you heard the footsteps." He said in a bored voice.
"No!" I snapped. "I know what I heard, scared or not! Besides, what about the wall? How could he have done that when he was with me?" I declared; knowing I'd won this 'argument'.
"He said he left you in the cabinet for a bit to check to see if the intruder was gone. How do you know he didn't do it then? And he tipped the paint can when he went back to get you?" He challenged, obviously getting riled up now.
I glared, "How dare you!"
"Miss, you don't seem to get it. Skylar's not an angel-"
"No! But no one is! You're job is to serve and protect! Not accuse my son of terrorizing Avery and vandalizing my house!" Matt shouted.
"Problem sir?" Officer Morgan came back in and glanced at all of us before settling on Matt.
"Yeah. You're piece of shit of an officer here is accusing my son of this! A report hasn't been filed or evidence drawn up but he's already named Skylar the culprit!" Matt glared.
I stared at Matt with my mouth slightly parted. This was a whole new Matt that'd I'd never seen. He honest to God loved Skylar. He was defending him to the core and wasn't budging on the issue.
"Okay sir, calm down. We'll get to the bottom of this. Miller, you're off the case-" Officer Morgan began but was interrupted my Officer Miller.
"-Sir! It was routine questioning! I simply pointed out the holes in his story!"
"Enough! Craig, I'm sorry but you're off the case. Keep it up and I'll have the captain suspend you. You accused a victim! And Sir, I'm sorry, no charges will be filed against your son." Officer Morgan said after pinching the bridge of his nose.
Officer Miller stormed out, his anger rolling off of him in waves. He stopped next to Officer Morgan in his way, "Check out the delinquent's rep sheet and get back to me on the whole innocent bit." He shouldered him and continued out.
And suddenly, I couldn't take anymore. I ran up the stairs and into my room as Matt called after me.
I was so frustrated! There was no way Skylar could've done it! He was with me! But at the same time I couldn't help the little voice that said, "Are you sure about that?"
