Leia Organa tightened the red scarf around her neck as she stepped off the private jet. Edward Cullen, her fiancé, was by her side, his cool hand a constant comfort. The small airport of Volterra, usually a bustling hub, was quieter now in the late twilight of December 23rd. Yet the city outside was alive with the glow of Christmas decorations, casting a festive warmth over the ancient buildings and narrow streets.
It didn't take them long to spot the vampire that had come to pick them up.
"That's Santiago", Edward whispered into Leia's ear, nodding in his direction.
Santiago certainly stood out in the sparse crowd awaiting them. He was a tall, imposing figure with a statuesque build that hinted at his formidable strength. His dark, wavy hair framed a chiseled face, accentuating his high cheekbones and strong jawline. His crimson eyes, a telltale sign of his vampire nature, glowed with a mix of vigilance and authority. He wore a tailored black suit that contrasted sharply with his pale skin, the outfit exuding both elegance and a subtle menace that befitted a Volturi guard. As he approached, Leia felt a chill despite the festive atmosphere.
"Welcome to Volterra", Santiago said, his voice formal and cool. "The Volturi have been expecting you. Follow me."
Edward and Leia exchanged a glance, the unspoken communication between them clear. They followed Santiago through the airport and out into the chilly evening air, where a sleek black car awaited. The driver, another silent and imposing vampire, opened the door for them. Without a word, they climbed into the car, and it smoothly pulled away from the curb.
As they drove through Volterra, the city's Christmas decorations created a magical ambiance. Twinkling lights adorned the ancient stone buildings, and festive wreaths hung on doors and windows. The narrow streets held a curious blend of ancient grandeur and holiday cheer. It felt like a mockery of the days to come.
The car finally stopped in front of the imposing Volturi castle. The ancient structure loomed over them, its stone walls illuminated by the soft glow of Christmas lights that had been strung along the parapets. Santiago stepped out first, opening the door for Edward and Leia.
"Welcome to the Volturi Castle", he said, leading them through the grand entrance. Inside, the castle was even more magnificent. High ceilings, intricate tapestries, and opulent decorations combined with Christmas ornaments to create a striking contrast.
As they walked, they passed several vampires who greeted Santiago politely, their eyes flicking to Edward and Leia with a mixture of curiosity and respect. The air was thick with the presence of powerful beings.
They were passing by a desk separating the section open to the public from the true vampire den. There they were greeted by Gianna, the human secretary. Her cheerful demeanor was a stark contrast to the tension Leia felt.
"Good evening, welcome to Volterra! The Volturi are looking forward to meeting you", she said brightly. However, Edward's subtle squeeze of Leia's hand told her that Gianna's outward cheer masked a deep-seated fear and nervousness that only he could sense.
Finally, they were led into an elegant drawing room. The room was cozy, with a roaring fireplace and plush furniture arranged to encourage conversation. The scent of pine mingled with the warmth of the fire, creating a surprisingly inviting atmosphere.
Aro, Caius, and Marcus were seated on a luxurious sofa, engaged in a leisurely conversation. The three kings, with their translucent, almost marble-like skin, bore the unmistakable signs of their ancient vampiric age. Their skin seemed to shimmer faintly in the light, giving them an otherworldly, ethereal appearance.
