ELOISE EMERY

ELOISE FELT her shoes squeak against the freshly cleaned volleyball court, her breaths became heavy with every step it took to get the front. Cheering echoed throughout the gym, hands clapping, and the scorching eyes of the spectators burned into the Russian girl. She watched at the ball flew right in front of her, using all her leg strength to jump up. The ball sailed towards her, with precise timing, she extended her arm, sending the volleyball hurtling downwards with incredible force.

The wide eyes of her team-mates and spectators followed her incredible movement, their breaths hitched as they watched the ball smack the hardwood with a loud 'THUD'. Her jump replayed in their heads like a video tape, the angel's wings almost appearing on her back. Cheers erupted from the stands as Eloise gained the winning point, admiration and joy coating their rumbling screams.

"Eloise! yes!" Keira's voice reached the girls ears as she landed back onto the hardwood, her breaths returning back to normal.  The rest of her team-mates rushed towards her in joy, enveloping her into a whirlwind of embraces, tears coating their faces.

"We won..." Eloise whispered to herself as fat tears ran down her face, her green eyes moved to her coach and manager who could only hug each other and cry.

They had won nationals and that was the only thing running through Eloise's mind, everything she had ever worked so hard for. Hours of desperation, practicing until her knees bled and running miles almost impossible for humans was finally worth it. the tears and pain was worth it.

And finally Eloise sobbed as her team was given medals, butterflies piling up in her stomach as her best friends pull her into another embrace of hugs.

she did it. they won. But why did her heart still feel so empty?

"Brighten up! why do you look so depressed for?" Malia questioned, her eyes swirled with curiosity as she smacked Eloise's back softly. Her group of friends sat around the marble table at a restaurant, Eloise's other friend, Jayden was paying for the entire meal. "you won nationals, girl."
