"Oh, well, life goes on," I said, turning to look at Raphael, who appeared just as surprised.

"No, no, no! Oh, good Lord, forgive me!" he exclaimed. "Y/n, let's go and get that fruit back."

"Oh, hell no. I'm not stupid enough to chase after a demon," I replied. "Can't you just spawn another one, like you did with that one?"

"No, that's not the problem. We can't let a demon have a holy fruit; it would be catastrophic," he said in a panic. "How did a demon manage to snatch a holy fruit right in front of me? My defenses were up."

"Well, good luck finding the holy fruit!" I said dismissively.

"Y/n, if it were easy to do it myself, I wouldn't be asking for your help. But time is of the essence. If we're too late, it might not end well for you, either," he pleaded, tears forming in his eyes. "I can't bear my charge dying because of my incompetence. Please, Y/n, help me save us both."

Damn it, why does he have to cry? But I really don't want to chase a demon.

"What will happen if the demon consumes my life force or energy, whatever it is?" I asked.

"Technically, they can't do anything without your consent. But if your life force is taken too far from you, it will pull your soul from your body," he said, still sobbing.

"Pull my soul from my body?" I asked, and he nodded.

"What are we waiting for? Let's get my life force back before that happens," I said. But as I took a step forward, I suddenly felt very light, like I was floating in the air. I turned around to see myself lying on the floor.

"Am I dead?" I panicked.

"No, you're not. Don't worry. Let's go get your life force immediately," he said, and I nodded.

"I don't understand why losing my life force separated my soul from my body!" I gasped.

"Your life force stabilizes your soul, sealing it to your body. If your life force depletes, your soul leaves your body. Unfortunately, even if a bit of your life force is taken away, this happens," he explained.

My head spun with countless possibilities. No, no, this is not how things should be! I don't want to leave with some unknown guy who claims to be an angel. I don't want to see more monsters. I don't want any of this.

"Y/n, don't worry. I can reseal your life force if we get it back," he said gently.

"I'm not worried. Let's get my life force back," I said blankly, not looking at him.

"Yes, I'll do whatever I can to bring it back to you," he said. I nodded.

He raised his hand and conjured a swirling, glowing portal. I stepped back, eyes wide. Do I have to go through this whole ordeal? I'd rather stay home and give up. Why do I need a body, anyway?

No, I need my body for a lot of things. I need to go take it. I'm the only one who can find it. Everything will return to normal when I get home.

I clenched my fist and took a step forward. Raphael gave me a warm smile as he gestured to the portal.

"Raphael, I think it's best you go in first so I understand what to do," I said.

He nodded. "It's simple. All you need to do is enter the portal, and I'll take us to our destination." He stepped in and disappeared.

I braced myself, still clenching my hand tightly, and glided through the portal.

As green light consumed my vision, my mind began working its magic, filling with needless thoughts. What if Raphael is lying and he's trying to steal my soul? What if I never get my life force back?
