Beyond the final whistle

England's loss to Spain in the finals had been tough for Phil Foden. As he sat on the couch in his living room, replaying the match in his mind, he couldn't help but feel the weight of disappointment. The cheers from the stands, the chants of the fans, all seemed distant now.

Y/N walked into the room, her eyes filled with concern and love. She had seen how hard Phil had worked, how much effort he had put into every game, every training session. She knew he needed her now more than ever.

She gently sat beside him, placing a comforting hand on his shoulder. "Hey," she whispered, her voice soft and soothing. "I know it hurts, but I want you to know how proud I am of you. You and the team did an incredible job getting to the finals. That in itself is an achievement."

Phil looked at her, his blue eyes filled with a mix of sadness and gratitude. "I just... I wanted to win for everyone, for the team, for the fans. It feels like I let everyone down."

Y/N shook her head, wrapping her arms around him in a warm embrace. "You didn't let anyone down, Phil. You gave it your all, and that's what matters. Everyone could see your passion, your dedication. It's not always about winning; sometimes, it's about the journey and how you handle the challenges along the way."

Phil sighed, resting his head on her shoulder. The warmth of her presence was slowly easing the ache in his heart. "I know you're right. It just stings right now."

"I know," she said softly, running her fingers through his hair. "But remember, every setback is a setup for a comeback. You've got so much more ahead of you, and this experience will only make you stronger."

Phil nodded, feeling a glimmer of hope. "Thank you, Y/N. I don't know what I'd do without you."

She smiled, kissing his forehead gently. "You'll never have to find out. I'm here, always. Now, how about we watch something funny, get our minds off things for a while?"

Phil managed a small smile. "Yeah, that sounds good."

They spent the rest of the evening cuddled up together, watching comedies and sharing stories. As the night wore on, Phil felt his spirits lifting, the weight of the loss gradually fading away. With Y/N by his side, he knew he could face any challenge that came his way.
