The moonlight gleams coldly as I emerge from the shadows, locking eyes with him as he walks towards me, my gun aimed, ready to fire at any given moment.
It's the gun I took from one of his guards before I fled.
His footsteps falter as he nears me, confusion etched across his face that the moonlight gleams in.
I knew he would find me. I took one of his cars the instant I found out what he did, the one he knew had a tracker, and led him here on purpose.
"Why did you run?" His voice is deep, laced with confusion and curiosity. "Are you trying to take our baby from me? Where is she anyway?"
I step closer, stopping just a few feet away. "You took something from me first."
His brows furrow with more confusion. "What might that be?"
"My blood. My only living blood."
My sweet sweet sister.
She was so pure for this world.
His confusion deepens until realization slowly creeps into his expression.
"Almost three years ago. March seventh, twenty twenty-two. In an old hallway between two factories and buildings... a little girl, about five-five with light brown eyes, heavy freckles, and curly brown hair... around thirteen. Shots to the chest." Having to speak all of that pained every bone inside my body. The flashback of that night replaying in my mind on a loop as if to torment me to the point of madness.
His face pales as the weight of my words settles in. "Who was she to you?"
I keep silent for a few seconds letting it all soak in. To speak of her bears' unbearable pain.
"My baby sister. My whole world and you took her from me."
"I-I-" he stammers unable to stop the astonishment taking over his face, but I couldn't control my fury surging through my veins as I snap to remind him of the notorious thing he did.
"You killed my thirteen-year-old sister! And left her in a hallway like trash!" My voice rises, venom dripping from every word.
"Sab-"
"Why?" My question cut through the night like a blade, sharp and unforgiving, my fists clenched to the point they go pale.
It's a question I have been wanting to know ever since she was murdered.
Why would they kill an innocent child? A child? Who could be so cruel?
"If I-"
"If you knew who she was, you'd have still killed her. You and my family had a feud, one you dragged my sister and me into. You would've killed her anyway! But I want to know why you did it that night. She was just a little girl!" Storm brews inside me like a volcano on the verge of eruption.
Without warning, I fire my gun, shooting through his index finger. Blood sputters as it falls to the ground with a sickening thud, his agonized cry filling the air.
"Fuck! She-she saw something she shouldn't-"
My blood boils at his words.
"You killed an innocent child because she saw something she shouldn't have?" My voice shook with fury. "As vile as I might, I would never kill a child, not when they can be persuaded. You had options. You could've done a hundred other things, but you chose death for someone who hadn't even lived yet!"
"It was too risky for me, my people, and my business!" He pleads, desperation creeping into his deep voice. "You know how-"
"RISKY?!" My voice thunders through the air. "BUSINESS! Marcellous, you call that BUSINESS!" I yell. "Kneel before me!"
