Chapter 15: A New Journey Begins
In the months following their visit with Veronica, Jameson and Benn dove into research about their options for expanding their family. After careful consideration, they decided to pursue gestational surrogacy, where they would create an embryo using one of their sperm and a donor egg, which would then be carried by a surrogate mother.
They connected with a reputable surrogacy agency and began the complex process. There were countless meetings, medical screenings, and legal consultations. Throughout it all, they made sure to keep Lucy involved, explaining things in ways she could understand.
"Remember how you grew in Mommy Veronica's tummy?" Jameson explained one evening. "Well, we're looking for a special lady to help us grow a baby in her tummy. But this time, the baby will be made from Papa Benn or Daddy's seed."
Lucy's eyes widened with wonder. "So the baby will look like one of you?"
Benn nodded, smiling. "That's right, sweetheart. But no matter what, the baby will be part of our family, just like you."
After months of preparation, they were matched with a kind-hearted surrogate named Sarah. They also selected an egg donor whose features complemented their own.
The day of the embryo transfer arrived, filled with nervous excitement. Jameson and Benn had decided not to know which of them was the biological father, wanting to love the child equally regardless of genetics.
As they waited for news, holding hands in the clinic's waiting room, Benn turned to Jameson. "No matter what happens," he said softly, "we're already the luckiest guys in the world."
Jameson nodded, squeezing Benn's hand. "We really are."
Two weeks later, they received the call they'd been hoping for. The pregnancy test was positive. Sarah was pregnant with their child.
That night, as they tucked Lucy into bed, they shared the news. "Guess what, sweetie?" Jameson said, his voice filled with emotion. "You're going to be a big sister."
Lucy's squeal of delight was so loud, they were sure the neighbors heard. As she peppered them with questions about the baby, Benn and Jameson exchanged a look of pure joy.
Their family was growing, in a way that honored their love and the unique journey that had brought them together. As they looked toward the future, they knew that whatever challenges lay ahead, they would face them together, bound by love and the family they had created.
