I walk through the halls of the hospital, my mind still replaying on yesterdays events. It was amazing, the best party I've ever had. I smile at everyone I pass by, they return it hesitantly.
"What's had you in a good mood today?" Madison walks beside me.
"Yesterday." I tell her, not looking her way.
"I'm so mad I missed it, but Miles was able to go." She pouts. "What happened?"
"We danced." I unlock my office door, Madison rushes in behind me, taking a seat.
"You danced? tell me details. How did it feel? what type of dance?" I chuckle at the questions thrown at me.
"It felt amazing, a slow dance." I tell her, opening my drawer.
"I'm dying. Goddamn night shifts." She spits out. "Did he get a gift?"
"Can you guess?" I stand up, sitting across her.
"A necklace!" She gasps, holding the pendant against her palm.
"I wanted this necklace, since last year." I tell her.
"And he got it." She says in awe. "These roses are adorable." She points at the vase holding the white roses sitting near the window. I turn back to Madison and I nod. "He got them for you. Didn't he?"
"He did." I smile, thinking about the letter that came with it.
Happy birthday buttercup. Enjoy.
"Omg!" She squeals. "He likes you, you know. This friendship is soon down the drain."
"No way, you're exaggerating."
"yes way, and you'll be coming to me saying I was right." I chuckle, shaking my head in disbelief.
"Maybe." Hope is all we can do.
------------
The day passes by quickly, but unfortunately the night shift has just started. This will be a long night. I'm practically half-asleep on my desk, when suddenly my office door swings open. I look up and see Cameron.
"What are you doing here?" I ask, raising my eyebrows.
"Food, you haven't eaten all day." He raises the bag of what I'm assuming is food. I smile.
"Have a seat." I say, rubbing my eyes.
"That's really unhealthy, you know. The germs on your hand transfers to your eye, which might cause viruses." He points out, setting the food on the table.
"Alright, Mr I'm so clever." I say jokingly.
"Just trying to warn you, buttercup."
"Why buttercup?"
"You give the vibe of buttercup, you have brown hair, even though she has black. You're tough, you're all action, and doesn't like anyone getting in your way. You fight hard. That's things I love about you."
"Got it." I smile at his words. "That's a compliment?" He nods quickly.
"Definitely." He says, passing me the plate of sushi.
"Sushi?"
"Don't tell me you aren't craving it, cause if you aren't, I'll go get something else."
"No No. Thanks for the sushi."
"Are you sure?" He stands up.
"Sit down. I'm sure."
"Hailey." He looks down at me.
"It's fine. I love sushi."
"I know you do, but it seems like you aren't in the mood. Lets go." He grabs my hand, causing me to stand up.
"Where??"
"You'll see." He packs the sushi back in the bag and drags me out of the office. "We want some fresh air, 10 minutes and we will be back." He informs the front desk. We walk out of the hospital still holding my hand. We reach his car, he open the door for me. Once I've settled in, he turns to the drivers side.
"Are you in the mood for burgers?"
"Sure." With that he drives to a near by burger place. He pulls up at the drive- through.
"Hello, what can I get you?"
"Can I have two chicken burgers meal, with coke. For one of the burgers remove the onions please."
"Of course. Next window please." He starts the car and drives until we reach the second window. The worker hands him the bag of food, He places it in between me and him. He hands her his credit card and pays.
"Thanks." He drives off. As he's driving he opens the bag and pulls out the burger and hands it to me.
"I don't want to ruin your seats."
"For godsake Hailey, I don't care about my seats getting ruined, can you just eat?" I take the burger from him, unwrapping it and eating it. I take a sip of the coke we ordered.
"Can you hand me a fry?" He asks. I pull a fry from the bag handing it to him. He doesn't take it, instead he eats it while it's between my fingers.
"Sorry, couldn't use my hands. I'm driving." I take a sip of my drink to keep my emotions in check.
"It's fine." We finally get to the hospital. He follows me to my office.
"You don't have a night shift. Do you?"
"I don't. I just didn't want you to be alone."
------------
I finished my work, clearing my desk, so I can take my leave. As I'm clearing my office the door swings open.
"I'm hungry." I turn around to see Cameron standing there, his brown hair ruffled up, his sleeves rolled up. He is beautiful standing there. His gaze immediately shifts to the window, the roses.
"I'm heading home right now. You can come, if you want." I tell him, his gaze still fixed on the roses.
"Sure. I'd love to." He looks at me.
"Alright then, let's go." We head to my apartment, I start making lunch while he plays with ben. I set the table, placing the plate of spaghetti with a side of chicken with a mini salad. Cameron comes over and takes a seat. He takes a bite then another.
"I've never tried anything better then this."
"You liked it?"
"Thanks for the food, everything is so good. I'm afraid I'll never get enough." I chuckle, when suddenly my phone blows up with messages.
Theo: you better come to my game.
Nancy: please save me, I can't be the only girl going to the game.
Gavin: will you come to Theo's game?
Archer: if your coming, I'll book you a ticket and we can go together.
Elliot: Happy birthday, my phone was broken, I got it fixed. Sorry I didn't tell you earlier.
All my siblings texted texted all at once, for the same topic. Theo's game. I hate going to social events. I don't want to go, but I don't want him to be sad. It's the last game of this season, so I guess I have to. I'll reply later though, I'll call them.
"Damn. Who was that?" Cameron snaps me out of my thoughts, I forgot he was even here.
"Siblings." I tell him, taking a sip of water.
"What did they want?"
"They want me to go to Theo's final game of the season. I'm dreading it."
"Oh yeah, Noah got ticket for me and him to go." He states. "Will you go?"
"I hate social events, I don't know."
"It'll be fun, come on." I can't say no to him. I never can handle saying it.
"Fine, I'll go." I say, letting out a sigh of relief.
