Chapter One – Do Three Dollars Make You Filthy Rich?

“Why did you eat it?” Jace’s jaw clenches as he asks me. I scoff. “What is your problem?” I ask him back.
“Apparently, my problem is you.” he says, hatred probably coursing through his veins. What? For a moment, I was bewildered. Then I shake my head quickly. Two can play at this game, babe. I thought and a smirk slowly crept up my face.
“Oh! How lucky. You’re my problem too.” I taunt him. He snorts. “Copycat.” he says childishly. Now, it was my turn to snort. “Last time I checked, you don’t own my problems. So why am I a copycat?” I ask, raising an eyebrow.
“Well, your problem is me. I own myself, don’t I?” he says, mimicking my tone and expression. For a moment, I was taken aback. I didn’t know what to say. But I quickly cover it by saying, “Whatever.” as I make a shooing motion with my hand and roll my eyes.
“Ooh... Little Andromeda can’t think of a witty response. Can’t be smart for more than a second?” that starts me. I shove him as hard as I can, considering his rock-hard, oh-so sexy body into the wall of his bedroom. I mentally slap myself. This is not the time to be attracted to Jace’s body.
“What. Is. Your. Problem?” I say through gritted teeth as I try my best to keep him pinned to the wall. “Are you deaf? I said you are my problem.” he says, poking his finger on my forehead on the word, ‘you’ hard,. so hard my head retracts a few inches back.
He laughs drily. “So dumb and weak.” he mutters. “Excuse me?” I say, scoffing as I back away from him. “Also deaf.” he adds more loudly. “WHATEVER!” I shout, frustrated. And with that, I walk away, slamming his door hard in the process.

I open my eyes and see that it’s already morning. Of course, Andromeda! It would already be morning. I chuckle and abruptly stop, thinking that I’m crazy for laughing on my own. I look at the clock by my bedside table and see that it’s already 7:50 AM. I just need to shower and... Wait, what? 7:50? I groan. I have exactly twenty minutes to get ready.
I quickly take a shower, dress, grab my stuff and call Roe. “Roe! Come on, we’re gonna be late!” I shout from the door way. “Coming!” Roe says as he jogs down the stairs. I literally drag him towards my-or rather-our car. Roe and I share a car since we only have our Mom left. I sigh. No more thinking of dramatic things, Andromeda.

Fifteen terrifying minutes later, we arrive. But driving at 150 kph can’t compare to Mrs. Hendy’s (my freaky homeroom teacher) wrath. Five minutes ‘til the bell for homeroom rings! “Bye, Roe! Catch you later!” I say and I dash for the school doors.
“Bye! And I’m not a bug!” Roe replies and I ignore him. I’ll get detention if I get late today! Unfortunately, the bell rings and I groan. “What the heck?” I mutter and I kick a random locker. Why did the bell ring so early? So much for trying not to be late.
I finally enter my homeroom. “Ms. Fosth! You are two minutes late!” Mrs. Hendy greets me as I take my first step inside. Yeah, thanks for the nice greeting, Mrs. Hendy! Good morning to you!
