Firstborn have strong magical affinities for the element of their birth. Secondborn split their affinity between the two elements of their essence. Secondborn of aligned elements are known to be the most naturally gifted in magics, while Secondborn of opposing elements typically struggle to develop their magical abilities. Most Secondborn of opposing elements tend to pursue more physical solutions to problems due to their stunted magical abilities.
The Chaosborn tend to develop single or aligned affinities if they want to pursue magic intentionally. However, it is possible for a Chaosborn to develop no affinity or to accidentally develop affinity with little or no care to use magic.
Regardless of species, different people with the same affinity can have very different magic. However, one cannot throw a fireball with affinities for air and water. Though they can vary as far as one being able to accelerate plant growth using air to improve water intake, while the other can produce and control local weather events, while another can produce a pinpoint jet of water that is capable of cutting stone and use wind to drastically increase the cohesion of the jet.
