My dad seemed pretty mad when I came home. I put my bag by the door and walked over to him, gently placing my hand on his shoulder. He slowly looked up at me, and I could tell something was wrong. I suddenly became really worried.

“What’s wrong?” I glanced around. “Where’s Hannah?” he sighed loudly and shook his head.

“Hannah’s fine. She’s upstairs.”

“Then what’s wrong? Did something happen?” he rubbed his face with his hands and sighed again.

“I got a call today from work. I have to go to Ireland for the next two months.” My jaw dropped. That’s a long time.

“What? That’s a long time! That is a long fucking time!” I shouted getting both angry and upset. I sat down in front of my dad at the kitchen table. “You can’t be gone that long! What about Hannah? What are we supposed to do when mum has to go to America? What about me? I’m nearly eighteen, and I have a life! You can’t expect me to watch Hannah every second of the day! That’s not fair!” I groaned and shouted.

“Emma, I’m so sorry. I can’t do much about it.”

“You can’t leave me that long!” tears formed in my eyes. “Please don’t leave me. You can’t leave that long, dad.”

“Emma, I’m so sorry. But it’ll be over before you know it. I promise, it won’t even feel like that long, and when I get back you can stay for as long as you like.” I sighed and nodded. I got up, grabbed my bag, and went to my room.

My phone buzzed.

From: Tanya

Hey, how’d it go?

To: Tanya

He thinks he owns me… lol! But can you come over; I need to talk to you.

From: Tanya

Of course, love! I’ll be right there.

I set my phone down and flopped on my bed shoving my face into my pillows. How could my dad do this to me? Him and I are like way close, and him leaving is gonna put a huge whole in our relationship. Ugh, why is life to damn difficult?

I heard someone knock on my door, so I flipped over and sat up. Tanya came into the room with a worried expression.

“Hey…”

“My dad is going to Ireland for two months.” I said barely audible.

“How could he do that? That is totally gonna ruin your guys’ relationship!”

“I know. I guess I’m just gonna have to occupy myself.”

“Well, you can stay with me while he’s gone, so you don’t have to think about it.”

“Thanks!”

My dad leaves tomorrow at noon, so I have to watch Hannah for like twelve hours. I love her to death, but she is a little kid and she can be annoying.

I tried my best not to think about my dad leaving for so long, so I stayed in bed watching movies. I eventually got really tired and fell asleep.

When I woke up, it was about 11:30, and my dad was getting ready to go. He gave up hugs and kisses and left sooner than I thought he would. He seemed pretty excited, so it must be a good spot for his job.

I made pancakes for Hannah and me and then we settled in the living room watching Spongebob. During the middle of the show, my phone rang. Louis.

Hello?

Hey, are you busy tomorrow?

Um, I have to work, and then pick up my sister from school.

How’s dinner sound?

Alright, I guess.

Ok, I’ll see ya around seven?

Ok.

I hung up and then saw Hannah staring at me.

“What?”

“Who is that?”

“Someone I met.”

“Ok.” I love how when I don’t wanna tell her something, she catches on quickly and doesn’t push any further. It’s like she knows not the make me mad or something.

For dinner, I made salad and noodles. After we ate, we collected anything we needed and headed back to mum’s.

The ride was silent, and I could tell Hannah was tired. When we got there I told her to get in her pajamas, brush her teeth and hair, and go to bed. She did as she was told.

I did the same. I realized I was exhausted, so I took a shower and went to bed. It was been a long weekend, and I’m glad it’s almost over.
