His lifeless eyes gazed down at me. He looked at me as if I was filth. The darkness shrouded us. I never meant to do this, I only wanted to follow the rules. It hurt, the way his stare burned into my stomach. I felt like throwing up. "Are you going to stay there, groveling?" My hands clench. I don't dare look up at him. "We are only here to keep you in place." The reminders of alarms and announcements from rusting speakers bleed through my ears. Of course, I was the lower life form. I never knew anything else, other than to obey. Blindly follow where the arrows point. I led myself to death. I slowly move my gaze towards him, only to have a rush of fear wave over me. I tried looking for a glimpse of hope in his pitch-black eyes and piercing smile. There was nothing.
The light flickered back on.
