Today is the day. I spent years of my life waiting for this moment. The day when I would be free, when I could run through the grass without the constant threats of a Lupi Ignis. I prayed to the Moon goddess to grant me my freedom.
And she listened.

The wind cut across Lunette's face as she ran through the forest, the dry branches scraping against her white skin. The uneven ground threatened to trip her up with every step. The darkness seemed to compact around her, turning the forest into a dark and threatening labyrinth.
Her breathing was rapid and irregular, a mixture of panic and exhaustion that made her chest tighten with every inhale. The distant howls of the wolves echoed in the night, a terrifying symphony that seemed to follow Lunette with cruel precision. Every sound of dry leaves and branches breaking under her feet became a constant reminder that they were getting closer.
Her heart beat at a frantic pace, out of rhythm with the urgency of escape. The ground was muddy and slippery, and the darkness was almost complete, limiting his vision to mere meters ahead. The air was charged with a penetrating cold that made her shiver, while the smell of damp earth and the metallic odor of her own adrenaline filled her nostrils. She tried to keep control, but the feeling of desperation was becoming unbearable, every step a struggle to hold on.
She looked over her shoulder and saw the red eyes of the wolves glowing in the darkness, their fangs glistening with a sinister gleam. Their bodies moved with a predatory grace, as if the forest itself was collaborating in their relentless hunt. The sight of their eyes reflected an ancient evil, a promise that Lunette was about to meet a dark fate.
She descended a steep slope, her feet slipping on the mud, and her lungs were about to explode. The forest seemed to close in around her, branches and bushes creating an almost impenetrable tangle. The howls were now almost upon her, getting closer and closer, while she felt the heat of the wolves' breathing just a few meters behind.
The terror was palpable, an oppressive force that pushed her forward, each second an eternity as she fought against the inevitability of being captured. With every step, the feeling of desperation grew, and the forest seemed to want to swallow Lunette up completely. The howls of the wolves filled the night with a promise of destruction, making the darkness even deeper and more relentless.
Despair overwhelmed Lunette, racing her heart. She knew that if she didn't reach the peak of the mountains, her survival would be at risk. Nix, her best friend, struggled to keep up with her. The white-haired, blue-eyed girl stayed close, but far enough away to camouflage herself among the green leaves of the trees.
In a moment of distraction, Nix stepped on a rotten log. His foot sank in, emitting a loud crunch. Lunette stopped her frantic run, her black curls sticking to her sweaty forehead. Gasping, she looked around for her friend. Before she could take a step, a cry of pain and despair rang out through the forest, a guttural sound that tore through the air with visceral intensity. Birds flew overhead, testament to the terror that was unfolding. Lunette's violet eyes widened.
She stepped back, blinking to come back to reality. Without wasting any time, she ran towards the other girl. Terror overwhelmed her when she saw Nix, her friend, with her arm trapped in the jaws of a large red wolf. The beast was biting her cruelly. Without thinking twice, Lunette grabbed a broken branch next to her foot.
She rushed at the wolf, the situation taking away all her caution. The only thing on her mind was saving her friend. She threw herself onto the wolf's furry back, raised the branch and drove it into the beast's back. The wolf howled in pain and propelled itself backwards, knocking Lunette to the ground.
Lunette's body fell heavily and she lost her sight for a few seconds. Gasping, she tried to get up. But fate had other plans. Two red wolves emerged from the shadows, their eyes glowing with bloodlust. They surrounded the girls. Nix had fainted from the pain. Lunette frowned, picked up the pointed branch that had fallen and stood up. She pointed it at the wolves, who looked at her with a certain mockery.
One of the wolves advanced towards her, and she dodged with difficulty. Years of slavery in the caves of Zalazar had made her agile, but not resistant to physical harm. She snarled at the wolves that were circling around her. She pointed the branch at the great beasts, as if that could stop them from attacking.
Another large wolf leapt at her. To Lunette's misfortune, the beast knocked her to the ground. The wolf's paws pressed into her chest, making her gasp. The creature growled, hot saliva falling on the girl's dirty face. Lunette cursed herself for not following it alone and growled in response, baring her teeth in an attempt to intimidate it.
This seemed to amuse the wolf. The creature's red eyes glowed brighter. Lunette couldn't resist the blood-red light, shining like a burning flame. She closed her eyes, succumbing to the darkness, knowing that her actions would bring terrible consequences.
