✩a few days later , isa was finally discharged from hospital and gavi had stayed by her side every hour she was there — even when she was throwing up in the bathroom , or laying in bed , or when she was endlessly complaining about how she wasn't training ; he stayed by her side.
and now , he was lifting isa's hospital bag , walking behind her as she walked into her father's house with gavi's grip on her forearm — ensuring that she wouldn't fall as he could tell that she was still quite dizzy.
"i can carry the bag , gav." isa offered for the tenth time since the pair had exited gavi's car.
the sound of the old nickname isa had once given gavi being heard again made his heart skip a beat.
he shook his head no . "i've got it." he said , shutting the door as they both made their way upstairs to isa's room.
they made it to her room , gavi gently dropping the bag and looking around the room. isa's room was fairly ordinary — aside from an occasional football memorabilia , it was a simple teenage girl's room.
one football memorabilia gavi took noticed of in particular was isa's jersey from the 2021 women's champions league final that had been framed. gavi couldn't help but smile as his eyes lingered on the jersey.
gavi looked at the jersey with a faint smile on his lips — recalling watching that game all too well.
he then turned towards isa , who had taken a seat on her bed. he noticed how pale and weak she looked , her eyes drooping and her expression weary.
gavi walked over to her , his hands gently resting on her shoulders as he knelt down in front of her.
"are you feeling any better?" he asked , studying her closely
isa nodded weakly , forcing a small smile onto her face. she looked like she could pass out at any moment , and gavi could tell she was exhausted.
"yeah , a little bit ," she replied, her voice barely above a whisper. "the medication they gave me is helping a little."
gavi didn't believe her — not even for a second — but he didn't push the matter.
he watched her carefully , noting the way her body leaned towards him for support.
"you need to rest." he said gently , his hands still on her shoulders.
gavi couldn't help but feel a pang of sympathy for her. she was clearly pushing herself too hard and she needed to take it easy.
he gently squeezed her shoulders before standing up straight , looking down at her with a soft expression. "you should lie down." he said quietly.
as she lay down on the bed , gavi couldn't help but notice the way her eyelids fluttered , clearly struggling to keep her eyes open.
he carefully pulled the blankets over her , tucking them to make sure she was warm and comfortable.
he kneeled beside her , his eyes still fixated on her. "you need to rest in order to get better. no more pushing yourself too hard."
he watched as she nodded weakly , her eyes drooping shut.
gavi knew that she needed rest , and he also knew that she was notorious for not listening to medical advice and pushing herself too hard.
he reached over and gently brushed a strand of hair out of her face , his touch gentle and soothing.
gavi stayed beside her for a few more moments , watching as she slipped into a deep sleep. he felt a pang of worry in his chest as he noticed the paleness of her skin and the dark circles under her eyes.
