I Know That It's Delicate

Izzy had been getting dreams—no, nightmares—ever since that fatal night at Cobra Kai. In these nightmares, she'd relive the worst moments of her life these past months; Riley breaking into her apartment, breaking up with Miguel, prom night, seeing her mom in Mexico. As much as Izzy tried to let go of the past, it had a funny way of coming back to her and reminding her that nothing good could ever last for her.

She'd jolt awake with heavy breaths and clawing at her chest, tears slipping out of her eyes at the realization it was just a dream and she wasn't back to those moments in her life. Right now, for example, Izzy had sat up in bed and sucked in a deep breath followed by a few sobs after reliving prom night when Ethan ruined everything for her and she drowned herself in alcohol to numb it all.

The room was dark and her eyes were full tears, her hands ran across her comforter to find her phone but they immediately went up to rub her chest moving rapidly up and down.

"Izzy?" A hand touched her back before pulling her in, her sobs muffled by the fabric of a shirt. "Hey, it's okay. It's okay. I'm here, you're okay." The familiar sound of Miguel's voice soothed her, allowing her breathing to begin to calm. Sometimes he was allowed to spend the night, and sometimes was rare.

He knew about the nightmares, he was the first person Izzy called when they first started happening. And he was always going to be there to remind her it was all over; Cobra Kai was gone, and they had each other, and it was going to be okay. The way he held her close, one hand rubbing her arm while the other cupped her face. It didn't take long for the feeling to pass and for Miguel to reach over to turn Izzy's lamp on.

"What was it?" He brought his hand up to dry the tears from her cheeks.

Izzy inhaled, closing her eyes. Then she exhaled. "Prom."

"Izzy..."

She opened her eyes and looked over at Miguel. "I'm going to go get water."

Miguel shook his head, "Let me get it."

Izzy was already getting up, crawling across the bed and letting her bare feet hit her carpet. She opened her door and could hear the faint sound of the television in the living room, meaning Kayla was awake. Miguel had followed Izzy out into the hallway and into the living room, both of them catching Kayla's attention who had a blunt in between her fingers and Gossip Girl on the TV.
