Chapter 2 - REFLECTION

After the creep in Venus's room, she wasn't eager to get back to sleep. Sure, she wandered back to her bed, but she didn't feel ready for another wink of sleep. After all, she knew what was coming - just another dream come true, and not the good kind.

Unfortunately, this sort of bullshit happens often. Venus has a nightmare (or as "scientists" would call it, precognitive dreams), and wakes up, becomes paranoid, and sometimes something happens like tonight. It sucks, sure, but it's life for her. She's used to it.

After her dreams, Venus usually either struggles to go back to sleep for a few hours, wrestling with her thoughts or doesn't sleep. Both ways, though, she reflects. Reflects on her dreams, on her life, on everything. Most nights, she comes to what she thinks is her biggest struggle: relationships. Not friendships, not family (though she did think about that quite a bit). Romantic relationships.

You see, Venus was always sort of a "hopeless romantic". I believe this started when she was a child, she never had a great understanding of what love was. Her parents weren't around often. They were constantly either working or fighting (we will get more into this later, it's a lot more than just a lack of love.). She never had the attention that most children get, which affected her throughout her childhood and even into her adult life. She never knew what true affection was, so she fell for anyone who gave her the slightest bit of attention.

As Venus grew older, her mental health deteriorated. Her ego was stripped from her each time she was rejected. She didn't have friends, as they would drive some sort of wedge between themselves and her, trying to get away from what they described as "clinginess". Each time, they fell out of touch. And each time, Venus felt a new weight on her shoulder. A new insecurity. A new reason to not love herself. A new reason that she would never be loved.

Venus thought of her life, all of her low points (many of which were just mentioned), and she slowly drifted back off to sleep. Sadly, this would be her worst one yet. Since she had gone back and thought of some of her worst, but not most painful memories, she had thought of him. And that's who she would dream of next.
