Chapter 3
Words: 1096Finally, you will address me by my name, but not 'Master', 'Sir', or any other formal title," Jungkook said, his eyes glinting with amusement. "I want you to feel comfortable around me, Yn."
Yn nodded, but inside she was in doubt what's this rule for? Like, why?
"Now, go and get your school bag," Jungkook said, his tone suddenly businesslike. "We'll get started on your studies. You have a lot of catching up to do."
Yn nodded hastily and moved out of the study room, feeling a mix of emotions. She was nervous about starting her new life as Jungkook's maid.
She returned with her bag and sat down on one of the couches in the study room, pulling out her science textbook and notebook. Jungkook watched her with an intense gaze, his eyes never leaving her face.
Yn opened her textbook to the chapter on cells and began to read, her mind racing with questions. She started to do her homework, writing down answers to questions like:
"What is the function of the cell membrane?"
"I read it; The cell membrane, also known as the plasma membrane, is a thin layer of lipid and protein molecules that surrounds the cell and regulates what enters and leaves the cell." Yn wrote the answer after finding its answer in the textbook.
"What are the three main parts of a cell?"
"Simple; The three main parts of a cell are the cell membrane, the cytoplasm, and the nucleus." Yn thought and started writing the answer in her notebook.
As she worked, Yn stole a few glances at Jungkook, who was sitting at his desk, typing away on his laptop. She felt a flutter in her chest whenever their eyes met, and she knew that she had to be careful not to get too distracted.
Their eyes met for a brief moment, and Yn felt a flutter in her chest. She quickly looked away, focusing on her homework.
Jungkook, too, had caught her gaze, but he didn't say anything. He simply went back to typing, his expression unreadable.
The silence between them was really pin drop silence only keyboard typing and pages turning voice was audible, but no one felt uncomfortable. Yn was too focused on her homework, and Jungkook seemed engrossed in his work as well.
Yn turned the page in her textbook, moving on to the next set of questions. She wrote down the answers, her hand moving quickly as she wrote down notes and diagrams.
"What is the function of the mitochondria?" she read aloud to herself, her eyes scanning the page for the answer.
"Ah, it's to generate energy for the cell," she murmured, writing down the answer in her notebook.
Jungkook glanced up at her, his eyes crinkling at the corners as he smiled slightly. Yn felt it, but she didn't look up, focusing instead on her homework.
The silence between them continued, but it was no longer awkward. It was as if they were both lost in their own worlds, yet still aware of each other's presence.
Yn continued reading through her textbook, her brow furrowing as she came across a question that stumped her. "What is the role of ribosomes in a cell?" She read to herself, scanning the pages frantically.
Unable to find the answer, she looked up at Jungkook, who had paused in his typing, listening attentively to her. "It's okay to ask, Darling," Jungkook said softly.
After thinking for a few minutes he said,
"Ribosomes are the cell's protein factories, responsible for assembling proteins essential for cell function."
Yn absorbed the information Jungkook provided. She quickly wrote down the answer in her notebook, grateful for his help. “Thank you,” Yn said with a little smile. The answer breaked the silence in a meaningful way.
With the question about ribosomes answered, she quickly finished the rest of her science homework, her mind focused on the task at hand.
As she closed her science textbook, Yn let out a satisfied sigh. She had completed her science homework, and it felt great to have that weight lifted off her shoulders.
Next, she turned her attention to her English literature homework. She pulled out the chapter of "To Kill a Mockingbird" and began to read the chapter, her eyes scanning the pages as she read the words.
Jungkook continued to work on his laptop, occasionally glancing up at Yn as she read. The silence between them was comfortable, and Yn felt grateful to have Jungkook's quiet support as she worked on her homework.
As she read, Yn's mind began to wander, thinking about the themes and characters in the story. She scribbled down notes in the margins.
As Yn delved deeper into the chapter, Jungkook finally finished his work on his laptop. He closed the lid and pushed the laptop aside softly, his eyes fixed on Yn as she read.
Without saying a word, Jungkook got up from his seat and walked over to Yn. He sat down beside her, maintaining a comfortable distance of about 20 centimeters between them.
Yn didn't flinch, too engrossed in her reading to notice Jungkook's sudden presence. Jungkook, however, was acutely aware of her presence, his eyes tracing the lines of her face as she read.
As Yn finished the chapter, Jungkook gently took the book from her hands and began to read. His presence was soothing.
When he finished the chapter, Jungkook closed the book and turned to Yn. "So, what did you think of this chapter?" he asked, his voice low and gentle.
Yn looked up at him, her eyes sparkling with thought. "I think it's really interesting how Harper Lee explores the theme of racism and injustice," she said, her voice barely above a whisper.
Jungkook nodded, a small smile playing on his lips. "That's a great insight," he said. “Can you summarize the chapter for me if you don't mind?” Asked Yn. “Here, let me summarize the chapter for you," said Jungkook.
And with that, Jungkook began to summarize the chapter, his words painting a vivid picture in Yn's mind. As he spoke, Yn felt herself drawn to him, his expression and gentle tone making her feel safe and comfortable.
