In December 2022, I first discovered Joong and Dunk through MrsEclipse555’s YouTube channel called “Everyone being done with JoongDunk.” At the same time, my TikTok feed was full of videos showing Joong and Dunk playfully flirting during Season 3 of Safehouse. Back then, I was not really interested in Boys’ Love (BL), but I quickly became attracted to the charm and cute appearance of DUNK NATACHAI, especially when he was featured in these videos.
By February 2023, I was so excited about them that I created new accounts on several social media platforms X (formerly Twitter), YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, and Wattpad so I could follow them closely, get updates, and support everything related to them.
My very first JoongDunk au, titled
#FromReelsToReal, was inspired by the real life interactions between Joong and Dunk. I became a very passionate fan often jokingly called “delulu” for being overly caught up in fantasy, especially whenever they shared sweet or intimate moments.
That passion led me to create a Wattpad account where I published my very first alternate universe (AU) fanfiction about them, called #FromReelsToReal JaceDoby.
While writing this book, I went through many strong feelings. I felt very excited during their cute moments, and I even fell in love with the closeness they shared. At the same time, I felt deeply hurt when I thought about the possibility of them separating, and I was very disappointed by the toxic behavior of some fans who only supported either Joong or Dunk separately and attacked the idea of them being together. This negative energy made me pause my writing because I realized that those harsh opinions especially from fans who disliked Dunk were affecting me.
There was a time when I considered not finishing the book at all because I felt too overwhelmed and didn’t have the heart to continue writing down everything I felt.
Then, one day, I understood that I needed to take responsibility for my own feelings. I realized that Joong and Dunk are human, too. They are not perfect, and we cannot always expect them to do exactly what we want.
I have always believed in the strength of their friendship. In all my years of fangirling, not just in the BL community but in everything. I have never seen a bond as beautiful and genuine as theirs.
As Joong once said, we are free to delusional at ourselves, even he sometimes get lost in his own fantasies. However, we must also find a way to keep ourselves grounded so that we never remain trapped in a completely delusional world.
I decided to put the Au on hold for now and plan to return to it much later, maybe in 10 to 20 years if Joong and Dunk end up together, or if they meet someone new and start families of their own.
I will always miss #JaceDoby. Even though they are not real people, they have a very special place in my heart, and I would love to meet them someday.
