"Welcome, welcome to another year at Hogwarts." Dumbledore's loud voice roamed the main hall."Now I'd like to say a few words before we all become too befuddled by our excellent feast."
Evianna looked down at her empty plate, feeling her stomach growl.
"First, I'm pleased to welcome Professor R.J. Lupin, who's kindly consented to fill the post of Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher. Good luck, professor." He ends by saying and bids the new professor a warm welcome.
Evianna and the crowd of students and teachers applauded as the professor rose from his seat and bowed with his hands folded together.
As Dumbledore was about to continue, something caught Evianna's attention. A few seats from her, she heard whispers coming from a certain blonde boy.
"Potter. Potter! Is it true you fainted?" He mockingly laughed.
"I mean, you actually fainted?"
The boy beside him replicated fainting as the surrounding students giggled.
"Shove off, Malfoy!" The ginger from the Gryffindor table said. Making a disgusted face at Malfoy.
It was so typical Malfoy to rub salt in the wound. He was so pathetic, Evianna thought to herself. She knew he and Harry had something bad going on between them. They had been enemies since the first year. Luckily, Evianna had steered clear of his bullying words. For now, at least. She had drawn a bit of attention to herself lately, and she was scared it might come back at her.
She focused her attention back on Dumbledore's speech.
"...Care of Magical Creatures teacher for many years, has decided to retire in order to spend some more time with his remaining limbs. Fortunately, I'm delighted to announce that his place will be taken by none other than our own Rubeus Hagrid!" Once again, the hall was filled with big applause. Hermione even cheered loudly.
Hagrid got up from his seat, nearly knocking the whole table over, and smiled at the cheering students.
"Finally, on a more disquieting note," Dumbledore continued.
"At the request of the Ministry of Magic, Hogwarts will, until further notice, play host to the dementors of Azkaban until such time as Sirius Black is captured."
Students started murmuring and whispering to each other. Evianna got the same chills she had gotten on the train. So that's what that thing was. But why were they on the train, and why was one of them trying to get to her?
"The dementors will be stationed at every entrance to the grounds. Now, whilst I've been assured that their presence will not disrupt our day-to-day activities...a word of caution. Dementors are vicious creatures. They will not distinguish between the one they hunt and the one who gets in their way. Therefore, I must warn each and every one of you to give them no reason to harm you. It is not in the nature of a dementor to be forgiving."
Chills went down Eviannas spine. She had goosebumps from the unpleasant speech.
"But, you know, happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times... If only one remembers to turn on the light." And with that, the feast began.
Evianna looked down at her plate as it magically filled up with everything her heart desired. And when she finished her first round, a new plate with even more goods appeared. But she was too stuffed from the first round, so she decided to leave it.
When the feast was over, all the students started leaving to go to their dorms. Evianna scouted the room. She wanted to find Luna and say hi. There was no sight of the blonde hair anywhere. Just as she was about to give up, a floaty voice appeared behind her, making her jump.
"Did you get some pudding?"
Evianna turned around on her heel, embracing the familiar voice with a hug.
"No, I was too stuffed up from the main course; I couldn't get down any desert." She laughed.
"Too bad, the pudding was spectacular..." Luna said as she floated into a daydream of pudding.
Evianna laughed. "I'm sure it was."
The two of them left the hall together, discussing what they had done since they last saw each other. But unfortunately, they had to go separate ways soon.
When they departed, they hugged one last time and said goodnight.
As Evianna moved through the hallway, she thought about her day. She felt how exhausted she was and longed for her bed.
She soon entered the Slytherin common room. The Slytherin common room was a long, low underground room with rough stone walls and ceilings, from which round, greenish lamps were hanging on chains. The dungeon extended partway under the lake, with three large windows on that side of the common room, providing an underwater view and giving the light a green tint.
The atmosphere was cold in a way, but still filled with laughing students chit-chatting away in the wooden chairs around the lit fireplace.
The girls' dormitories were located up the stairs through a hallway on the right side of the grand staircase. All she wanted to do was go to bed, but something, or rather, someone, was in the way.
Pansy and Malfoy. It had always been obvious how much pansy crushed on Malfoy. It was pathetic to look at. But for some reason, he still gave her the attention she so badly wanted.
And now they were right in front of her. On the stairs to the girls dormitory. Pansy giggled as Malfoy whispered something in her ear. None of them noticed Evianna's presence.
She cleared her throat, trying to get their attention.
Pansy looked down at her. "Yes? Can we help you?" She said in a high pitched voice. Her shrill voice was unbearable.
"Yes, your in my way," Evianna explained, annoyed. She wasn't good at keeping her emotions in check and being polite. Definitely not against Pansy.
Draco looked down at her as well. His icy eyes met hers. He didn't have the same angry look she had seen before. This time, he looked curious. He looked her up and down once, making Evianna quite uncomfortable. She didn't like being examined this way.
"And that's my problem, why?" Pansy's shrill voice interrupted.
Evianna moved her eyes from Malfoy and directly into Pansy's dark gaze.
"Excuse me?" She said. Feeling the anger building up inside of her.
She looked back at the blonde boy. He was still looking at her with the same curious look.
"You heard me. Now go annoy someone else. We are quite busy, if you don't mind." She giggled as she looked at Draco, whose eyes were still fixated on Evianna. That seemed to annoy Pansy, as she forcefully turned Malfoy's head towards hers and kissed him. He didn't seem to mind, though.
Evianna felt her stomach turn. Not what she needed right now. She then decided to take matters into her own hands and pushed them out of the way. Making Pansy slam into Draco.
"Watch where your going, bitch," she yelled after her in a squeamish voice. But she was too high up the stairs for Evianna to even care.
She quickly found where her stuff had been put and collapsed on the bed.
