Ca'Layah's POV
Me and my brother Lyric had just left the cozy abode of our parents, with the familiar comforts of home giving way to the excitement of the journey of the day. We were off to a highly-anticipated basketball tournament where our good friend D'aydrian, who had grown to become some sort of pillar of support in our lives, would take on coaching duties.
What had developed between my brother, D'aydrian, and me over the last three years was a close-knit, almost familial bond. Further contributing to this sense of community was the nurturing presence of Mama Hardin, whose warmth and affection bestowed upon us a sense of belonging that exceeded the level of mere friendship.
Reflecting on the deep impact this circle of support had in my life from the time I joined at 13 years old, I felt overcome with a deep sense of gratitude. They had become such an integral part of my happiness, filling my days with so much joy and companionship that to think of life without them was almost unimaginable. I had been anticipating the day I would be at the airport to meet them, aware that Lyric felt the same, securing it on film for D'aydrian to treasure.
"Hey, Ca'Layah, what do you want from Chickfl-a?" Lyric's voice interrupted my thoughts, and I pulled out my Airpods to fit into the present moment. And without so much as a second thought, I knew I'd be going along with Lyric. So I got up and followed him thereto order it thinking on the way.
As we were coming up to the Chick-fil-A, I looked over and saw D'aydrian walking up towards the terminal, like he was going to call me. Sure enough, my phone started ringing, and I answered it to hear D'aydrian asking, "Where y'all at?"I thought you said y'all were already here."
Not wanting to make him wait, I asked politely if he would like anything from Chick-fil-A, to which he responded that they had already eaten. I reassured him we'd save seats as more people filled the terminal.
After having wrapped up the call, Lyric returned my attention to our order at Chick-fil-A, and I opted for the Sandwich and Fries with lemonade. While Lyric was paying the bill, I scrolled through my Instagram feed and read the current posts and updates from my friends and family. The bright images and captions eased the time until our food was ready and prepared.
