People who knew Luca Changretta or has ever heard of him could never describe the dark haired man as nice. He wasn't nice. He was actually quite horrible — he felt no remorse for the bad things he has done or has ever helped a suffering soul. The only people he would help were his family. He would kill for them and he has and will continue to do so in order to get revenge.

Having John Shelby killed made Luca feel good. Knowing that Michael Gray was laying on a hospital bed gave him some satisfaction but it was not enough. Luca had one more ace to use but he was going to keep that hand to himself a little longer for sentimental reasons. It wasn't because he wanted to give the Shelbys a little more time — the reasons laid behind Birdie and her safety. Her happiness and life.

"Luca?"

Birdie threw a roll at her brother across the breakfast table. The older brother turned to his sister, giving her a look of annoyance veiled with amusement.

"You didn't hear a word I said," huffed Birdie, narrowing her eyes at Luca's maladies. Luca wasn't someone who easily daydreamed. He was a very serious man and has been like that since he was young.

"My apologies Bird," said Luca and turned to face his sister to show her she has his full attention. "Can you repeat yourself?"

With a dramatic sigh Birdie agreed.

"Mama said that I was adopted from England, right?" Birdie asked and Luca nodded to confirm her question. "Well, then I was thinking that now that I'm here, I could find out about my birth family."

Luca frowned, reaching for his glass of water and took a long sip before speaking. "Why would you want to do that?"

"I just think I want to know. I'm not a kid anymore and I can handle whatever the truth is," Birdie explained.

She was a little surprised by her brother's defensive response. Birdie's interest towards her past had nothing to do with the present situation — and she would never trade the Changrettas to anything or anyone else — but as she was getting older she thought she ought to know more about her past.

"Does mother know?" Asked Luca.

"I have talked to her about it and she said it's my own choice to make," said Birdie, scratching the skin behind her poor ear. "I'm not asking for your blessing. I just wanted you to know."

"I see," Luca pinched the bridge of his nose like he does whenever things weren't going his way.

Birdie could tell that her revelations and the conversation were making her brother uncomfortable although she couldn't tell why. She has in the past expressed her interest towards her biological family before to Angel who had been very supportive of her.
