"Eh? Where's my dinosaur?" - Jiwon (spoken)
[RULE NUMBER ONE: NEVER LOOK VULNERABLE]
[RULE NUMBER TWO: NEVER BREAK]
[RULE NUMBER THREE: NEVER MAKE IT EASY FOR THEM]
These were the rules my father taught me when I was getting trained to be a mafia. All of these are extremely punishable according to my father. Though there is one exeption. The top two rules can be broken for a mission, in order to trick them into thinking youre weak. But not the last one. You must never break the last rule. Never.
It has been a day since that conversation with my father. Thankfully, he had a mission and was very busy all day. Too busy to come and punish his daughter. Thank god. I waited until one am to sneak out, because tbat's when the shift of the bodyguards change at tge gate, and I figured I could slip out in the small time gap where there was no one there. It was going to be tight, but life's all about taking risks. At least, mine is.
I was thinking about these rules as I carried a still sleeping Jiwon to the gates of our mansion, after getting changed and grabbing a pocket knife and a hand gun from the training room. The gates were locked, duh, but I climbed them fairly easily, considering I had a sleeping child in my arms, it was one am, and I was making sure not to accidentally pull the trigger on my gun. Haha, "oh yeah, i almost escaped once. But i accidentally shot me and my brother on my way out." That's a pretty good one.
I landed gracefully on the other side of the gate, but the force of my landing jolted Jiwon awake.
"Eh? Where my dinosaur?" Was the first thing he said after discovering that he was no longer in bed but outside on the dark street with his sister carrying two weapons. Well, the kid trusts me. I cant blame him, I'm a pretty trust worthy person. Ish.
"Right here, don't worry." I said, pulling his green dinosaur plushie out of under his jumper. Yes, that is the first thing I grabbed, even before the gun. And I love guns.
He breathed a sigh of relief and gave his toy a cuddle after I put him down. Then he froze. He slowly looked around him, adging nearer to me.
"Um, noona? W-where are w-we?" He said in a tiny, terrified voice. Aish, I almost wanted to take him back and put him into his warm bed after hearing the fear in his voice. But I couldnt. Not unless I wanted to watch him suffer the hardship of mafia training.
"We're just moving to somewhere else today, baby." I told him brightly, taking off my hoodie and wrapping it around him after seeing his shivers. I picked him up to give him extra warmth and started walking, making sure to keep my eyes and ears open for any threats.
" Soooo.... We're gonna live somewhere else now? " he asked uncertainly.
"Yes, Ji." I said, trying to make it sound like I actually knew the fvck where I was going.
" Oh. " he drooped slightly in my arms. "But I liked my playroom." He said folornly.
"Dont worry, kiddo, you'll like this new place even more. And, I'll be able to spend more time with you." I told him, thanking God for my excellent lying skills. He immediately brightened.
"You will?" I could here the hope in his voice.
"Mmhm." I replied, satisfied after hearing his happy giggles.
Ok, escape: check.
Find somewhere to go: 😐
Yeah, I really hadn't thought this through, had I? Well, at least step one is complete!
I checked behind me for the seventh time. I dont know why, but I felt like someone was following me. And a mafia always trusts their gut. So I cocked my gun subtly. I slowly but swiftly walked in the direction of an allyway. Jiwon clinged onto me a little tighter.
"Noona? Are we going in...there?" He whispered so quietly that I almost didnt here him. I nodded in response. I put Jiwon down, feeling very cold without my hoodie and his warmth. We entered the alley and I pressed my self against the wall, pulling Jiwon behind me. I pointed my gun at the entrance, finger on the trigger, prepared.
And sure enough, three figures appeared, all armed with guns and a lot taller and muscular than me. Oh shit.
I didn't move positions in the slightest, standing still with that confident posture that I've mastered over the years, no matter how petrified I feel inside, like right now.
The three figures, which I am now guessing are guys, seemed a little taken aback to see that I had a weapon, but quickly adjusted, all pulling out their huge guns as if to say, "No problem."
I looked at them, nothing but pure courage in my eyes. They looked back at me, the same look on their faces. Suddenly I heard footsteps behind me. I quickly moved Jiwon, who actually looked paralised with fear at this point, to another position where he was shielded by my body.
I turned my head without moving the rest of my body to see who was behind me. It was five more men, all tall, all strong-looking, all armed with guns ten times the size of mine, all very intimidating.
Upon seeing me, they all cocked their guns and aimed at me, just like the three from before. I wasn't sure who to point my now pathetic-looking gun at now, so I backed right up against the wall and looked from the first set of men to the second, my gun following my gaze. Wait a minute...there are eight of them. They are all guys. They are part of a mafia gang (obviously). Could these be the men my father warned me about before?
They were. I just knew they were. So they must be here to kidnap me and hold me for ransom. And they can't do that if I'm not alive, can they? My father always told me that one of the main parts of being a mafia is preventing other gangs' missions.
My actions injected with a whole lot of confidence, I put my gun point at my temple, and smirked slightly. I watched them widen their eyes and exchange glances, before proceeding towards me. Before they could reach me, I smirked wider, closed my eyes and pulled the trigger.
