The day was hot. Too hot to be outside without some sort of refreshment. And that was why you were suffering temporarily, stuffed into Heeseung's old car with no air conditioning, pressed up against your boyfriend and his best friends, wishing you had snagged a window seat when you had the chance. You watched Jake wistfully as he stuck his head out the window, squinting in the sunshine and grinning widely, big white teeth showing as he laughed to himself, reminding you oddly of a golden retriever. The only reason you had all squeezed into Heeseung's junky old machine was because Jay had scratched up his car the week prior and vehemently refused to be seen out in public with his "dying baby", and he couldn't book an appointment to get it repainted for two whole weeks.

Therefore, everyone had stuffed themselves into Heeseung's car, which he had defended firmly until he himself remembered that there was no air conditioning, and he shut up. You felt like a family of circus clowns when you exited the car at the gas station a few miles back—you'd all exited the car one after the other, and there seemed to be way too many people squashed into such a small vehicle that a child at the next gas pump over had watched you all in awe with his mouth hanging open before tugging on his mother's sleeve, asking if it was some sort of magic trick, making Jay turn positively purple with embarrassment. You sighed again, the umpteenth time in the last hour, and Riki placed a comforting hand on your thigh, patting your bare leg reassuringly, silently telling you that the torture was almost over. As you looked over at Jake again, who at that moment choked on a bug that was flying past the window, you once again wished for some sort of relief, any sort of fresh air.

"Two miles until we get there," Heeseung announced, squinting at Sunoo's phone, the latter of the two sitting pretty in the front seat with a pair of red, heart-shaped sunglasses perched in his tousled pink hair. Everyone let out a collective sigh of relief, and you started trying to unstick your left leg from Jake and your right from Riki, who by this time had removed his hand, although a sweaty handprint had remained, much to his embarrassment and your amusement.

"Why can't we just get out now?" Jake whined, finally leaning back inside the car, long brown locks windswept and pushed away from his forehead, exposing his full brows and excited brown eyes. "I can see the beach from here."

"I need to find parking!" Heeseung said, exasperated, and Jake whined.

"I'm with Jake," you groaned, finally unsticking your legs from both boys, "I need fresh air now."

"Come on, Hee," Jake said, "you go find parking and the rest of us will wait for you in the water."

"I'm staying with Heeseung," Riki said, shaking his head, "Sunoo and I need to help him find the damned parking lot."

"Is it okay if I go with Jake and the rest?" you whispered, watching Heeseung finally relent, unlocking the doors and allowing Jake to half-jump half-stumble out the door, dancing around happily in the bright sunlight.
Riki sucked in a breath, gaze flickering between you and Jake, but as he watched Jake show Sunghoon and Jay the remnants of the bug that had flew into his mouth earlier, he thought that he probably had nothing to worry about. "Of course," he said, pressing a quick kiss to your cheek, "we'll only be a few minutes anyways. I'll be there to put your sunscreen on, that's how fast I'll be."

You chuckled, ruffling your boyfriend's hair affectionately before stepping out of the sweltering car and into the dry heat of midday, shielding your eyes from the bright yellow-white rays. You closed the door behind you and watched the trio drive off, clutching your bag close to your body. "Come on!" Jake said excitedly, placing a callused hand on your shoulder, "let's go!" You looked up at Jake, eyes narrowed in the light, and admired his pretty, sun kissed face—his tall nose was already showing signs of a sunburn, the skin there being pinker than the rest of his face.

You let Jake guide you to the beach; he had one arm around you and the other around Jungwon, who complained the entire way there about the scorching pavement that he could feel through the soles of his sandals. It didn't take long to reach the sand, and Jake took both you and Jungwon by the hands and started running down the sandy hills, making all three of you stumble a little before reaching the shore. "Sunscreen!" Jake sang, pulling a mini bottle out of his pocket and rubbing the white cream all over his limbs, not bothering to rub it in all the way. He left a large stripe on his nose too, claiming it made him look like a hot lifeguard, which made Jay gag as he walked by with a cooler. You'd made yourself comfortable, laying out your chair, towel, and umbrella, when Jake approached you, sunscreen-covered legs now doused with sand, asking if you needed help with the sunscreen on your back.

You sat up, looking around for Riki, but sighed when you didn't see any sign of him. "Yeah, sure. That'd be great, thanks," you said gratefully, already feeling a little sensitive to the sun. You turned over and immediately felt his hands on your back, rubbing in the cool liquid. His hands felt completely different from Riki's—more callused, smaller, but with thicker fingers and a wider palm. It was so unfamiliar, almost uncomfortable, and you wished Riki had been there instead.

Speaking of your boyfriend, as you propped yourself up on your elbows and looked around, you spotted him stalking towards you, a scowl on his face. "What's going on here?" he asked loudly, making a few people around you look in his direction, surprised by his harsh tone.

"She just needed sunscreen on her back, that's all," Jake said cheerfully, standing up and rubbing the remaining lotion into his own skin. "You're finally here!" He punched Riki in the arm playfully, making the younger boy stumble to the side a bit, and skipped away to go bother Jungwon and Sunoo, the latter trying unsuccessfully to unravel a new kite he had just unpacked.

Riki plopped down beside you, his expression still unhappy. You sat up and kissed his cheek, making a small smile appear on his face. "Are you jealous right now?" you cooed, wrapping your arms around him and making him whine.

"A little," he admitted sheepishly, and you kissed him again, trying to reassure him.

"You know you have nothing to worry about," you murmured, "I was already starting to burn, and Jake offered. Nothing more."

"I know," he mumbled, "I just didn't like seeing him do something I usually do for you..."

You hummed in understanding, then stood up suddenly, surprising Riki. "Come on. Let's go swim," you said, holding out your hand. Riki hesitated for a moment, eyes downcast, but when you wiggled your fingers playfully in front of his eyes, he couldn't help but smile as he interlocked his long fingers with yours, letting you guide him to the edge of the water.
