Song for this chapter: "The 30th" by Billie Eilish... it's not exactly the same but it made me think of this scene.

"Where is she?" I asked frantically, running into the hospital waiting room, where I saw Tyler and Matt in their own chairs.

"Where the fuck is Caroline?" I asked, just as Ms. Forbes, Caroline's mom and the woman who's always been more of a mother to me than my own, walked in.

"Is she okay?" I asked frantically. Caroline was my best friend and was always there for me whenever I needed her to be. "What's gonna happen?"

The cheerfulness that I'd felt after my father had died and I'd survived was short-lived, for only a few minutes later, Tyler had called me, telling me they'd gotten into an accident. They hadn't gotten far enough from the device, and Tyler was also affected by it. Caroline collapsed in the street and was now in the hospital, most likely from internal bleeding that no one had noticed.

"There was some internal bleeding," Ms. Forbes confirmed with a sad smile. "They're taking her into surgery."

"What else did they say?" I questioned, nervously.

"Is she gonna be okay?" Matt questioned.

"They're gonna do everything they can," Ms. Forbes responded with tears in her eyes.

I pulled her into an embrace and a tear ran down my cheek as well. If anything happened to Caroline, I wasn't sure what I would do.

"Lorelai," Tyler said sternly, pulling me away from the hug, taking in my battered appearance, "Are you - are you bleeding?"

"Not anymore," I shrugged as I tucked a strand of my thick red hair behind my ear, wiping the tears from my eyes, forcing myself to be strong for my friend.

"What the hell happened? You said you would be fine!" he worried.

"I- I fell. In the crowd," I responded, the lie easily escaping my lips.

"You fell?" he asked skeptically.

"Yep," I responded as I walked to a chair and plopped down in it, not planning on leaving the hospital until Caroline got better.

"You fucking bitch!" my father yelled, slapping my face.

"What did I do, Daddy?" I cried, trembling in fear. Tyler and I had been throwing a ball in the house, even though we knew we weren't supposed to. But what were we supposed to do on a rainy day? I missed one ball and it hit a vase, which broke into pieces that pierced the couch beside it.

"You ruined a very expensive piece of furniture, which I do not appreciate. Things that I spend my money on are important to me, Lorelai," he spat, pulling me along.

Soon enough, we were in my room and he was grabbing my two favorite stuffed animals. One was from my Uncle Mason when I was really little, and it was a cute green triceratops. The second one was a teddy bear that was always dressed in overalls, and my nine-year-old self lived to match with her. I didn't know where I'd gotten it, but her name was Luna - I hadn't picked the name, but my mother always told me that was it.

"What are you doing with Trixie? What's gonna happen to Luna?" I cried. He pushed me away and my back hit the wall.

"What are you doing?" I asked between tears.
