I was in the garden, leaning against a tree, looking up at the blue sky. After she dropped the bomb, my parents went back to their room to rest and probably discuss what had happened, but before that my mother ordered her maid to escort the princess to a guest room. There is no way that anyone will let her leave.

I needed time to collect myself, so I went to my sanctuary, to the garden. Eiran shortly found and joined me, and then I told him everything that had happened. For a while we were both lost in our own thoughts.

„Every time I think I am close to finding the solution, it disappears like a mirage." I murmured, reaching out to the sun, then clenched my fist. "I thought I could go to bed today knowing that my father was healthy again. Was I being too conceited?" He enveloped my fist in his hand and dropped back to our side. He intertwined our palms.

„It was a natural conclusion. I'm sure your parents believed the same, so they must be pretty upset too."

„But how could she forget?" I lost my cool for a moment.

„We don't remember our names, our faces and where we lived either. Our memories are very vague and I feel like I can recall less and less every year. Perhaps the same thing happened to her, but I think now that she is back here, there is a chance her memories will come back." It wasn't unreasonable, but I was too afraid to hope for anything.

„Looks like I've stumbled upon an interesting conversation." I flinched at the sudden voice and looked up. But the next moment she was in front of us as she jumped down from the tree.

„Did you eavesdrop on us?" I angrily accused her. I felt I was close to the boiling point.

„I was here before you two, so it's not my fault." She shrugged. „But I felt you sensed my presence." She turned to Eiran with narrowed eyes.

„You weren't my priority." Hearing his answer, a small laugh escaped her lips.

„I see." She sat down in front of us very unladylike. „Let's talk."

„About what?" I raised an eyebrow.

„I am sure you have a lot of questions to ask, and after listening to your talk, I have a few too. But you can go first." She beckoned us with her hand.

„I'm really interested in how you get here from that new world of yours. Did you die again?" I was surprised that Eiran was the first to ask questions. I thought he would remain silent and just support me.

„I just said I got a boyfriend and you think I would be willing to die?" She looked at us with an expression of disbelief. She shook her head. „I'm not dead. Probably."

„Probably?" I asked curiously.

„I throw myself in front of a... moving carriage? Ah, I hate not being able to say what I want!" Was she talking about a car? „Well, after much thought, I figured I might come back here if I cursed myself. Therefore, I placed a curse that if I get in a life-threatening situation within a day, I will be transported back here." And then you jumped out onto the road? Have you read too many transmigration stories?

„It was a very risky thing to do." Eiran said, but he looked far away, lost in his mind.

„Perhaps I lost my sanity for a while after racking my brains for days." She admitted. „I just felt bad... about a lot of things. I didn't want my guilty feelings to cast a shadow over our relationship in the future, so I was determined to lift your father's curse and make it possible for him to live on.

„How selfish." I muttered. „Still, I am glad you came here."

„You can hate me. I have done many things I am no longer proud of, and anyway I can't say I like you or your family."

„What's the point of hating a dead person?" I sighed. „The princess paid for her wrongdoings with her life and the person in front of me..."

„You can call me Euli. That was my childhood nickname and it's pretty close to my new name."

„Fine, but how do you plan to go back? I feel bad for your family and boyfriend." At least my parents and friends aren't waiting for me, but for her... She's not dead, she's just disappeared. It must be unbearable for them.

„After I arrived, I cast another curse on me. I will be sent back after the curse on your father is lifted." I stared at her in shock.

„Are you crazy? If this...„ My voice trailed off. "If the curse on my father cannot be undone, you can't go home."

„That's why I have no choice but to succeed. I promised him I would be back and I don't break promises. I will remember how to do it!" I could almost see the fire burning in her eyes.

„Could you teach me how to curse?" Eiran asked and this time it was he who shocked her.

„Nope." I immediately intervened. „You don't have to learn that." I glared at him.

„If we ever get separated, I don't want to live 19 years without you. Again." His eyes were full of desperation. I linked our little fingers. It was an old habit of ours.

„I don't want you to rely on something like that because if it ends up not working, it would be too devastating for you. If we ever lose each other, I want you to concentrate on living your life without wasting your time and energy trying to find me. If this is our fate, we will meet again and again." Our eyes locked for what seemed like an eternity.

„I am not willing to leave it up to fate." I just want him to be happy and I don't think that chasing me would make him, but I should not force my idea of happiness on him.

"Wait... So you're both from another world too?" I almost forgot she was here with us.

„No, we were born and raised here. We just remember our past lives." I answered because it was easier at the moment than facing Eiran.

„So... you were lovers in your previous life, found each other in this new one, and got back together? It's kind of incredible." She was right. We were unbelievably fortunate to cross paths and recognize each other. Or was it destiny? Honestly, I don't really care, the result is what matters. „I wonder... Was he around when I was a princess and wasn't lucky enough to meet him? Or was I not the kind of person who could make him happy?" I guess she was talking about her boyfriend.

„I have no idea. I understand very little of what happened to us. And if you'll excuse us..." I took a hold of his hand and led him away. Euli just watched us with a contemplative look and didn't try to stop us.
