Avalyn's POV
The week had flown by in a blur of activity and preparation. Each day had been a whirlwind of practice, planning, and bonding. The time for our journey had arrived. As the sun rose over Avaloria, casting its warm red glow over the castle, I felt a mix of excitement and apprehension. Today marked the beginning of our quest to recover the shards of the Obsidian, and we would start with our first challenge in Zyrrakian.
The courtyard was abuzz with final preparations. The princes and their dragons were lined up, ready to depart. My father stood with Vincent, his expression a blend of pride and concern. Vincent had been a constant source of support, and I was grateful to have him by my side.
"Remember," my father said, placing a reassuring hand on my shoulder, "this journey will test your limits, but it will also reveal your strengths. Trust in each other and in your dragons."
"I will, Father," I said, nodding. "We're ready."
The dragons were already equipped with their travel gear. Tylriento, Dozeo, Nythes, and Ydysses stood proudly, their scales glistening in the morning light. The magical supplies and provisions we'd packed were securely fastened to their saddles, and the mood was a blend of focused determination and quiet camaraderie.
"Let's get this show on the road," Col said, a determined gleam in his eye. "Tylriento and I have been itching to get started."
"Same here," Robin agreed, his excitement palpable. "Dozeo's been looking forward to the challenges."
Pierce was more reserved but equally prepared. "Nythes is ready. We've practiced everything we can."
I looked at each of them, feeling a surge of confidence. The preparations, training, and bonding had created a solid foundation. We were a united front, ready to face whatever lay ahead.
With a final check of our gear and supplies, we mounted our dragons. The departure from Avaloria was a solemn yet exhilarating moment. The castle receded in the distance, and the open road stretched before us.
The journey to Zyrrakian was long, and we traveled through varied landscapes, from rolling hills to dense forests. The scenery was breathtaking, and I allowed myself a moment to appreciate the beauty of the world beyond the castle walls.
As we approached the border of Zyrrakian, the terrain began to change. The lush greenery of Avaloria gave way to rocky cliffs and winding rivers. The sky was overcast, hinting at the challenges to come.
Col led the way as we entered Zyrrakian, guiding us towards the coast. The Abyssal Depths awaited us, and the sea was a constant reminder of the task at hand.
We arrived at a secluded cove, where the water was a deep, eerie blue. Col and Tylriento took the lead, demonstrating their underwater gear. The harnesses and breathing apparatuses were essential for our safety in the depths.
"The Abyssal Depths are known for their treacherous currents and dangerous sea creatures," Col explained. "We'll need to stay close together and be vigilant."
We carefully donned our underwater gear, and each dragon was equipped with their own set of specialized equipment. The moment we were ready, Col and Tylriento led us into the water.
As we descended into the depths, the world above seemed to fade away. The underwater realm was both mesmerizing and daunting. The water was cool and clear, but the darkness below was unsettling.
Tylriento moved gracefully, his movements effortless as he guided us through the submerged landscape. The sea floor was a labyrinth of rocky outcrops and underwater caves.
Our first challenge came swiftly. A sudden current swept through the area, threatening to pull us off course. Tylriento struggled to maintain his position, and I could see the strain in Col's expression.
