Brockton Bay
January 2011Dinah Alcott, was feeling her head hurt again, the percentages from random questions she overheard made it ache, but something about them, they went from percentages, to....rounding into nearest 5, not that she complained, it just meant things were.....less complicated. She was once again in the hospital, seeing if anything was wrong with her, or the fact she had undeniable information that she had triggered, at least that's what the percentages said were 100%. It could also turn on and off, a great advantage....in some way.
Dinah didn't want to know, but that wasn't the worst of the issue. A new medicine the doctors wanted her to try apparently made her see things. Sitting in the small doctor's office was a man, a bit rough in appearance. His hair was pulled back, mixed with braids and ended in a ponytail that ran along his back. On his hip a book was bound in a holster like object, on his other hip was a disk like object. There was also a bag that was on his lower back.
The clothes he wore a mantle that reached roughly to his waist, a medallion hung from his neck as he looked around.
"Bel Haal Do Lah." He said, annoyed, looking at the door handle, chanting it as if it would do something.
Dinah was ignoring him the best she could, hoping that this would be over with soon. She shook her head as he looked at her.
"What plane is this? I know not of one that rejects the command of a wizard."
"Great it's a crazy delusion as well."
"Delusion? I am an arch mage, I spent decades to achieve this, and sacrificed much to do so. My name is Lucius Pine. now....May I have your name child....and can you open this door?" He stated, seeming to be prideful in the claim.
"How does a figment of my imagination....not know what I know?" Dinah asked herself.
"It could be that I am not, indeed, something in your altered mind, and in fact, a being who can not interact with the plain due to the unusual nature of the plain." He explained.
"Ummmmmm. You're on Earth Bet. And...I don't think I should tell you my name. What are you trying to do? The chant. Bellhop dolah?"
"Bel, Haal, Do, Lah. It's the language of the dragons, Summon hand of Magic, is a more literal translation. It is to summon my Mage hand, so I could open this door with....most of my dignity." He said looking down at his shoulders.
"Bel haal do lah?" Dinah spoke, before a hand glowed, it looked almost like a projection.
She moved the hand, it moved freely, and picked up a pencil on the table. She moved it to over her hand and handed it to herself. After a minute the hand disappeared, just as fast like how it appeared."My my, one who is naturally gifted in the arts. I knew many who tried to learn the cantrip of Mage Hand for months. Well. I assume you will need a mentor, and I can provide you some guidance. I do still have my Spellbook. Bel haal do lah. I just need....this is going to become very annoying." He said, expecting the hand to appear, before he looked at the book.
"Do you think you can grab my book?" He asked, walking over to her and standing to the side.
Dinah reached and her hand passed through the book, his body acting like a foggy image before it resettled."That's going to be.....more difficult. Well....Perhaps I can start with....hmmmm, we have mage hand. Are you one to...shy away from threats, or deal with them. If it's the former, I can teach you.....utility, if the latter, then defensive and offensive magic may be better." He explained
"I don't.....exactly plan on fighting." Dinah said.
"Little lady. Few who become great heroes, ever plan on ever to do such when fate calls them to do great things. We can only adapt to what is to come." Lucius explained.
Dinah watched as the door opened and the doctor walked inside.
