Brockton Bay
Dallon Household
January 2011
Amy was sitting in her room, walking up after a day of school and her work, she slept like a rock, she could after all, it was a weekend. Her life for the last year was like this, healing those she could, volunteering, and saving people who were injured. She wasn't a fighter, not a good one, but she could still be a hero.
Slowly waking up, Amy would walk towards the window and open it, smiling as she felt the sun on her skin, it was nice. Walking to the bathroom, rubbing the sleep out of her eyes, she could tell that there was some movement, and someone muttering, did Carol have someone over right now? She normally didn't bring people over for work stuff.
She walked down the stairs and saw, inside her house, was a roughly 6'ft tall white monster dressed in plate armor, a spear and shield on it's back, along with a sword on their hip. They were kneeling in the living room, and no one seemed to notice, or care to notice.
Mark was in an armchair reading the newspaper while the TV was on the news. Carol was watching the news, something about how Winslow was delayed due to a Bio-hazardous incident on the first day back from winter.
"Who do you think it was? Empire? With the demographics of that school, and it located around the border of territory, I wouldn't put it past them." Carol said.
"Maybe....seems a bit...low effort for them." Mark said, not really paying a great deal of attention to any of the things around him.
Victoria walked down past Amy, smiling.
"Good to see you awake Amy." Victoria said, before going to the kitchen.
Amy however, hadn't moved her eyes from the thing in the room. It slowly got up and looked at Amy.
"Salutations." it said, it's voice, feminine but also deep, it also gave a little wave to her as it gave the greeting.
"What's wrong Amy?" Carol asked.
"So.....we aren't going to acknowledge this?" Amy asked.
"Acknowledge what?" Mark asked, lowering the newspaper.
"Ok, so we didn't just want to make sure." Amy said, walking to the kitchen and getting herself a bowl of cereal to eat.
The thing walked to the edge of the room, and looked around the corner.
"Would you know where I am?" it asked.
"So, Ames. What do you want to do? We can hit the Boardwalk or mall, go shop there, or the Boardwalk. Maybe Lord Street Market too." Victoria said.
"I don't know, I don't really feel like shopping. I might go volunteer at the hospitals again, to help those in the worst condition." Amy said, trying to ignore the stranger in her house.
She ate her cereal, just kind of going through the motions. Victoria went to shower, and Carol walked in.
"I do appreciate everything you are doing." She said, leaning against the counter, keeping her distance.
"I'm just using my power to do what I can." Amy said, giving a forced smile.
"Those who let their power consume who they are often break when they no longer have what they use to anchor themselves to the world." The thing said.
Amy looked at her hand.
"What does anchor me?" She asked herself.
The thing looked surprised at Amy's comment to herself, and the mistake that was made by acknowledging the idea.
"You can see me? You can hear me?" it asked, stepping closer to Amy.
Amy ignored the thing, before getting up from the table, Amy would then go and get ready for the day, taking a shower and a new set of clothes. As she left, the thing seemed to follow her, walking a distance behind her. However....making contact with her sister, she didn't have the immediate knowledge of her body as she use to, it was slowly, creeping from points of contact and spreading out, nearly a minute until she could sense the whole body....that wasn't good....something happened to her power, did that thing have a trump power too?
"Hey. Victoria! Can you give me a lift to Brockton East?" Amy asked.
"Sure." Victoria said, as she flew over, and picked her sister up bridal style and carried her away.
Hopefully with distance, her parents could take action and deal with...whatever that was. As Victoria was set down at the entrance and Amy got on her feet, she smiled.
"Thanks. Ummmm, at home, were we just ignoring that...Case 53 looking thing?" Amy asked.
"What? You saw a Case 53? At home? Why didn't you say anything?" Victoria said.
"I thought Mom and Dad were just....pretending like it wasn't there so that it wouldn't be hostile until we got away." Amy said.
"Where was it? I didn't see it." Victoria said.
"In....the living room. I would think it would be hard to miss....big white lizard in armor with a spear and sword. It was watching us eat." Amy said.
"I....I didn't see it. Amy....are you sure everything is ok?" Victoria asked.
"Yeah. I'll be going in. Have fun with De-It's here." Amy said, looking at the thing as it was looking around, people walked by it ignoring it completely.
Victoria looked at it directly, but shook her head.
"There's nothing there." she said.
Amy watched as the thing took a few steps before a person walked through them. They were confused as their body reformed just as quickly as it was disrupted. Looking around, it walked to a window, before trying to punch it. They hit it, but it didn't seem to react to the strike. They drew their sword and swung at a bush, the leaves didn't even move to acknowledge the blade.
"Amy.....where is it?" Victoria asked, as she nervously looked around.
"I....I think it's not....all real. I don't know, something about it isn't interacting with the world." Amy said.
"So....you think it's safe?" Victoria asked.
"Maybe.....I don't know. It just....looks lost." Amy said.
"Well, let's see what it wants." Victoria said, walking towards the door.
"Here, let's sit on a bench, and I can....try and get it over to us." Amy said.
Victoria and Amy sat down on a bench and the thing walked over to them.
"Most humble apologies, I seem to be very lost, and I no longer feel my patron's presence. Would you happen to know where I am, but....no one seems to acknowledge me, I mean no harm in it, I am just confused." it said.
"It's fine. You're on Earth Bet. But....What are you exactly? Do you know who you are?" Amy asked.
"Yeah, and why are you following my sister?" Victoria asked.
"Oh, you both can see and hear me. But....Earth....Bet. I have never heard of this place. I am a Paladin, my name is Yarpath Phisbis, at your service. As for...Why, I am just as confused as you are as for my connection to you sister young lady." It explained, bowing a bit as she gave its name.
Amy nodded.
"What did it say? You better not be here to hurt my sister." Victoria said
"She says she is a Paladin, named Phisbis. And....she has never heard of Earth Bet." Amy said to Victoria.
"Oh....so she can't perceive me. Well, young madam. I apologize, but I am seemingly connected to you. When you left your domicile, I found myself moving from location to location rather quickly and forcefully, as if I was shifting planes. I only arrived here as you did yourself." Yarpath explained.
"And she can't be some distance from me for some reason. Well, Yarpath. I am Amy Dallon, but people know me as Panacea. This is my sister, Victoria, better known as Brockton Bay's flying Brick, or Glory Girl." Amy said.
"A brick that flies. I am surprised. If I am to be with you, I offer my services....what little use they may be of. Perhaps....I can be of some assistance to you, until my reason for this...change, becomes clear." Yarpath explained.
"I think that can work, But.....did you mess with my powers? They feel slower?" Amy said.
"Your powers are slower?" Victoria said.
"I....I do not know if it is I who is affected. I am most sorry if I am the cause, but I do not have control of it. Not even a leaf responds to me." Yarpath said.
"Please don't tell mom. I didn't know until we flew over, it's like where I make contact, it branches out from there. And Yarpath, I am not blaming you." Amy said, standing up.
Amy walked to the Entrance, Yarpath following behind.
"So many sick. I would try and help them, using my blessed touch. Perhaps you can. My Patron, the Oath to Torm granted me the ability to heal those I lay my hands on." Yarpath explained.
"That's like what I do. I fix people, with my power." Amy said softly.
She was let into the hospital's waiting room, before she held the hand and waited, learning what was wrong, before she fixed the problem.
"Thank you Panacea." the person said, smiling.
"It is what I would do for anyone." Amy said.
She moved onto the next person.
Continuing on this, Yarpath followed behind Amy for a bit. There was one person who came in, and Amy, along with Yarpath both felt something was wrong. She watched as the man walked through the Lobby. Yarpath followed for a second, and Amy walked, hoping....this wasn't going to be anything bad.
The man walked out and Amy froze, it was Hookwolf, he had on some sunglasses and wasn't covered in metal, but it was his face. She moved around the corner, watching as he walked out.
Rushing to see where he came from, there was a doctor in a chair, clenching his neck. Amy rushed over, and Yarpath looked at him.
"He is bleeding too fast. Torm, let our efforts of this young lady be enough to bless us with healing." Yarpath said.
"He's going to need more than prayers." Amy said, placing her hands on the man, and she felt a warmth move through them, before he gasped.
"Y...You saved me." He said the cut on his neck was closed, but left a scar.
"It's what a hero would do." Amy said.
"It's what a Paladin would do. You are honorable, Panacea. We can save more people. But....are you to learn, and become a Paladin?" Yarpath asked
Amy looked at Yarpath.
"I think I can."
