Ten Years Later
"Be careful." I helped him sit down on the waiting chair inside the hospital for our prenatal care appointment. "Are you hungry? Thirsty? Sit tight and wait here, okay? I will go and buy you a bottle of water."
Just as I was about to turn around, I grabbed hold of my wrist firmly, refusing to let go. "No, I am fine. I don't need anything. Just sit next to me."
"Are you sure?"
He rolled his eyes. "Yes, I am sure."
"Why are you rolling your eyes? What if our baby suffers from Strabismus?" I gently reprimanded him not to do it because, again, fearing it would affect the little version of us inside his tummy. I saw he was about to roll his eyes again, yet he successfully stopped himself in time.
"Patient Tae?" a nurse walked out of the room, holding a clipboard in hand as she called out the name.
"Here!" I exclaimed, raising my hand.
My voice seemed louder than needed, causing a few people nearby to turn to look at me. I mouthed an apology and helped my spouse up to his feet. Well, I was sorry for being overreacted, but I couldn't help it, alright? Today was the day that we were told of our baby's gender, so I was overly excited.
"Please come this way," the nurse smiled and directed us inside a room where a female doctor was waiting.
I stood nearby and tried to calm my nerves down as the doctor was smearing the gel-like substance over his bloated stomach before using that machine to roll around and looking at the screen. At first, she frowned, making me almost forget how to breathe, thinking that something was wrong with the baby. Just when I was about to lose my patience and asked, her expression changed into a grin like a Cheshire cat.
"Look like the two of you are going to be very busy," she said as the grin evolved into a peal of soft laughter.
"What is going on, doctor? Why?" looked at me before turning to ask the doctor with a slight frown.
"Because..." she trailed off and lost her words into another laughter.
"Doctor, please. Don't keep us hanging." I almost stomped my feet in worry.
Only then did she calm down and tell us a piece of very shocking yet pleasant news, "Congratulations, Mr. Jeon. Your husband is pregnant with triplets!"
"WHAT?!?" I exclaimed in unison, making the room reverberate with our loud voices.
*******
Time flew fast when we were having fun. As months passed by, Tae successfully delivered three healthy boys into the world. Our house was filled with joy at the sound of infants crying and adults laughing, bathing everyone in a good mood, and eternal happiness.
However, we couldn't deny the fact that our lives were getting significantly busier.
Handling three infants at once was indeed a difficult task, yet we never complained. Each day, we watched how TaeKook, JeonKim, and JungHyung grew up slowly but surely into strong and healthy boys.
Life was typically like this. As long as we learned how to embrace things, obstacles would eventually be turned into annals.
