As soon as they arrived in Vegas, Hawk asked his driver to go to a pet store to buy as many things as he could to spoil Mavis.
About an hour later, he was crossing the hotel's lobby with Mavis on the leash, getting into the elevator to get to his room.
He had two full bags of dog food, toys, harnesses and collars, as well as more items, like an enormous bed and kennel.
All right, he might have let himself get carried away, but once he was in that store he just couldn't help it. He needed to spoil her.
Still, he was glad to finally arrive in front of his door, turning the key and unlocking it, setting foot inside. He dropped his bags right away, not even looking around before unleashing Mavis and getting his luggage next to her stuff.
Hawk straightened his back and stretched his neck, tired from the trip and the shopping. "Can I help you?" a voice said, startling him.
He dragged his eyes towards the sound and rolled them when he found Addie standing on the threshold of the bathroom with only a towel around her. "What are you doing here?" he asked, annoyed already.
She arched a brow. "Me? What are you doing here?"
"It's my room." He jiggled the keys in his hands, trying not to think about the fact that she was almost naked in front of him. Water dripped from the ends of her hair, drenching her skin.
"No. It's my room." Walking to the nightstand near her bed, she showed him her keys.
He caught up to her with Mavis on his heel and took her keys. "What the fuck?" he muttered.
"I'm not sharing my room with you. It's hard enough having to share my workplace. I need my own room to decompress after spending time with you," she said, crossing her arms.
Hawk arched a brow and peered down at her. "You seemed pretty decompressed the last time I was in your room," he reminded her, grinning not only with his mouth but with his gaze also.
Her chest heaved with a deep breath, sudden memories of having his body against hers filling her mind. "You should leave," she told him, not trusting herself enough.
"Why me? You leave."
"I got here first. I already unpacked."
"Well, and Mavis has already made herself at home, so..." he retorted, crossing his arms and tilting his head. She gave him a look that weighed that statement. "Listen, we'll just sleep in separate beds and pretend the other doesn't exist."
She scowled. "Are you stupid?"
"Excuse me?"
"Hawk," she said. "There's only one bed."
With a deep frown, he whipped his head to the center of the room and saw that she was not wrong. There was only one bed. "Ah." How had he missed that small yet crucial detail?
"Yeah. Ah." She pressed the heels of her hands in her eyes. "This is probably Brianne's doing."
"Yes, it is likely."
"I won't have it."
"Come on, Addie. We're adults," he started, walking up to her and leaning back with his hands braced on the nightstand behind him. "We can sleep with pillows between us if you don't think you're strong enough to keep your hands to yourself."
"Me? We both know who can't resist whom," she reminded him, taking a dangerous step forward.
He kept his face stoic, hoping it would hide the desperate yearning. "I thought we were making progress in our friendship."
