The sun had set a few hours ago and you along with Steve and the rest of your friends were currently sat around a fire Eddie had started not too long ago, all of you wanting to chat with each other a bit more before you all eventually went to sleep for the night. As you all continued to talk to one another, the more your heart practically pounded out of your chest while you sat there on a log a few feet away from the fire. This was a result of the fact that Steve was sitting right next to you, your thighs centimeters away from touching.

You had been head over heals in love with the boy since the first day you met him on the day of your freshman year of high school all those years ago. But because of all the things that have happened in the last few years because of the upside down had made Steve vulnerable. And if you were to make a move, you didn't want him thinking that you just doing it now because he wasn't as cocky, confident or untouchable as he used to seem to be. So you kept your feelings hidden the best you could.

In your mind, hiding your feelings was worth it because admitting your feelings would create the risk of loosing Steve forever. Although if you were being honest, not being able to be with Steve in that romantic way you had been longing for for years was hurting you, more than you'd like to admit. All you wanted was to kiss him and cuddle him and call him yours. That would have to wait until Steve was okay enough for you to admit your feelings for him.

But deep down, you knew that you wouldn't last much longer. You wished you could will yourself to be more patient but you loved and yearned for Steve in a way that made you feel like you could never  live without him. You felt like he was your other half, the person your soul had been tirelessly searching for for centuries. So, you mentally decided that tonight was the night that you would admit your feelings to Steve, even if that meant he didn't feel the same way. And if that was the outcome, you vowed to yourself that you would be okay with that and offer to just remain friends with Steve.

As all of this raced through your mind and you were spaced out in the direction of the fire, Steve quietly observed you. He wondered what was going through that beautiful head of yours. He wondered if you knew just how in love with you he was. He wondered if you knew that you had helped him heal mentally with your love. He wondered if he would ever muster up the courage to tell you that he loved you as more than a friend. But before he could to continue this wondering, you suddenly stood up from your spot next to him on the log you had been sharing.

"I'm gonna go to bed, goodnight everyone." you said before turning away to walk back to the tent you just so happened to be sharing with Steve the next few nights. And the second you started to walk away from the fire, Steve excused himself as well and began to follow you back to the tent.

You quickly looked over at him as he started to walk with you, confused as to why he had randomly decided to go back to the tent you were sharing not long after you had. He had never done that sort of thing before during past camping trips. He looked over at you, simply admiring you and your beauty before he softly spoke to you.

"Penny for your thoughts?" he asked you, still lovingly looking over at you, his pupils now a bit bigger since he was looking at someone he loved. You shook your head in response as you looked over at him and spoke again, "It's nothing, Steve. Don't worry about it." You assured him. He nodded back at you, he didn't completely believe you but he decided to leave it alone and let the topic of what was on your mind go.
