Patter

Patter

Patter

That's all you heard. The patter of the rain hitting the ground. The rain was relaxing, sure, but nothing could relax you and Elise right now. Speaking of, she was quiet. This was the quietest fit of anger you've seen out of her.

Then again, you couldn't really tell if it was just anger. Was there sadness as well? Guilt? Regret? Disgust? Hatred, even? You'd never be able to tell. You never could when it came to Elise. However, her soft voice snapped you from your thoughts.

"I'm going ho-..."

She cut herself off, pursing her lips and turning away.

"Back to the house... Atleast the warmth would give me more comfort than you..."

And without another word she walked off. You wanted to go after her, but you didn't. 'If she wants to be stubborn, then she could be stubborn alone...' you thought to yourself. You turned around and continued walking to the store. Grabbing your phone as you walked, you checked the time and the phone battery.

It was at 20%. Not too bad, but not great either. With that, you walked a bit faster. You needed this charger and you needed it now.

"Guess mom was right when she said I needed to start remembering the lay out of this city..."

You mumbled, scowling at the fact that you didn't remember the layout of the city you'd been living in for nearly 15 years. Without GPS you'd be fucking lost... You ran a hand through your hair, it was already soaked from the rain. Sighing, you noticed a black car start driving next to you. You glanced at it, mumbling curses under your breath.

Your house burned down, you just got into it with your sister, your soaking wet! And now you're probably gonna get kidnapped, raped, and beaten to death. Today was just going fucking perfect! The driver rolled down his window and called out to you.

"Hey, pretty lady! You need a ride? I wouldn't want a pretty thing like you getting sick out here~"

He looked to around his mid 40's. Short hair, a maintained beard. Definitely divorced. You rolled your eyes, the urges telling you to respond. At least you walked a little faster as you did so.

"I'll be fine! Just going to the store to meet up with my boyfriend..."

You called back, hoping he'd buy your lie and leave you the fuck alone. However he didn't. He just kept repeatedly insisting that you'd let him take you there. It was a shame really. He stayed with you the entire walk to the store. Once you finally got there you sprinted inside, not wasting ANY time. The lady at the counter jumped at you randomly bursting through the door.

"Aya! Cara Mia, are you alright?"

She asked in a startled tone, you sighed and nodded. You explained that some man in a black car was following you. She nodded, understandingly.

"Well, my dear, what can I get you?"

You handed her a charger and a bag of chips. While she was ringing up your items, she noticed how wet you were from the rain. She offered an umbrella. 'On the house' she said, however you still declined. You didn't need her trying to guilt trip you into helping her in the future.

You swiped your card on the card in the card reader and left with your items. The walk back 'home' seemed quicker than the way there. Probably because you weren't being followed by some sexually deprived dad in his mid 40's.

Once you got back a firefighter walked up to you. It wasn't the same one from before. They looked alike, same eyes but different hair color. Maybe brothers.

"Ma'am, do you have anywhere to stay? A parents house perhaps?"

You shook her head. You refused to let you or your sister go back to him.

"No, but my friend should let us stay over..."

You mumbled, grabbing your phone so you call her. The phone rang for a minute before she picked up.

"Heyy bitch! It's like... too early for you to be calling me!..."

Her enthusiastic tone dropped to a tired one. She often was not beat for the bullshit. But hey, you might just get a ride in a fire truck for it so... She would understand.

"Yeah, you think I want to be up this early? Anyways, my house burnt down."

You didn't even get to finish before she cut you off...

"Bitch, what!? The fuck do you me-"

"Zuri. Shut the fuck up and let me finish."

Zuri sighed and mumbled a confused 'whatever'

"My house burnt down, and I need a place to stay. Me and Elise. Can we stay with you until I can get back on my feet?"

You could practically hear Zuri smirk over the phone.

"Of course, my little sociopath~"

She teased and you rolled your eyes. This time it was you mumbling 'whatever'.

"Hugs and kisses bitch, my doors unlocked!"

You sighed and hung up the phone. Walking back over to the firefighter, you told him that your friend agreed. The man nodded and offered a ride there. Of course you said yes.

You and Elise rode in the fire truck and it seemed to cheer her up a bit. 'At least she's happy...' you thought to yourself, rolling your eyes.

It took about 15 minutes to get there. A quite boring ride really. When you got to Zuri's house you thanked the driver and left. Not to soon after you and Elise got out of the truck he drove off. 'Okay? Fuck you too...' You thought to yourself with a scowl.

You opened the door to Zuri's house, stepping inside before seeing the scene on the couch.

"Goddamn, Zuri... I forgot your house was this big..."

You mumbled before your eyes landed on the couch. Your eyes widened and you almost screamed. You pushed Elise away from the door before she could walk in and be scarred for life.

"Zuri, what the fuck!?"

You yelled, shielding your own eyes.
