Chapter 2: The Challenge

Matvey's POV

The next day, I got early to the school and saw Fyodor in the classroom, sitting by himself in his desk. He looks like he didn't sleep enough.

I approached to talk to him. I'm sitting next to him anyways, so no big deal. Once I sat down and got my notebooks out on the desk, I heard him mumble something.

Fyodor: "Unbelievable..."

Matvey: "Hey, if it's about Dmitri, why do you worry so much about that?"

Fyodor: "I prepared so much for the ceremony and this is what I get? Fuck..."

He only sighed. I heard no anger in his tone and strangest of all is that he seems calm.

Matvey: "I know; you were amazing yesterday, but still they are Kolobanov after all."

Fyodor: "At least I expected you there if that was not me in that case, since your dad's in the Army but never mind, really."

Matvey: "Ah, that's true."

In that moment, Sidorenko and Yegor came. He is Fyodor's younger brother. They were laughing about something.

Sidorenko: "...Yeah, totally! Oh, look. Your big bro's here. Hey, man, how are you?"

Fyodor: "Fucked up."

Yegor: "I know. I petsonally never expected him to replace Mitev. But, it is what it is."

Sidorenko: "Golden rule: if one whoops your ass once, then expect him to whoop your ass every time onwards." he laughed.

Fyodor: "I AIN'T GONNA LET MY FUCKING ASS WHOOPED BY HIM! GET THE HINT?!"

And he returned to his normal self. But he still seemed bit off afterwards. Since he is fixated on Tank Warfare so much, I can sense it left a huge impact on him.

Despite his talent and deep knowledge, he has to still serve both Kolobanov brothers for the time being. Seems like he has something against him.

Fyodor: "Tell me; is this some trashy joke?!"

Yegor: "What do you mean?"

Fyodor: "Dmitri isn't like Master Zinoviy or even Yuri. He is too gentle, which isn't what the style is known for. Him and Yuri are nothing alike!"

I wish I could say something in Dmitri's defense, but I feel like I dom't have that right. I can say to myself I'm opposite of my dad, who is stoic and strict - he is the Lieutenant in the Army.

Yegor: "But still, he was still selected as vice, and he is the heir of Kolobanov style and name."

Sidorenko: "And Yuri's little bro."

The room was silent for a brief moment.

Yegor: "But what if Dmitri has a secret talent yet to be seen? How about that, Fedya?"

Fyodor: "Hmm. That sounds ridiculous. But you still might be right. This is not just about Dmitri, but about entire Kolobanov family."

Matvey: "Mind explaining?"

Fyodor: "Master Zinoviy was able to become the commander the moment he stepped in the tank, with natural talent. Same was with brothers. The moment they entered tanks, they showed their true powers."

Matvey: "You believe it's a family thing?"

He was silent for a moment.

Fyodor: "I want to test how powerful is Dmitri really. You're with me."
