Kaia Diaz sat with kenny at lunch the next day, "so, any plans tonight ?" kaia asked, creating some conversation as she ate her sandwich

it was a classic pb&j, just like her mother always made her.

kenny tried to play it all cool, but the smile he was fighting gave it away. "yeah just a small thing" kenny lied, which kaia saw right through

the girl scoffed, bringing one knee up to her chest, continuing to eat. "bullshit, i can see right through you. cmon, tell me" kaia pushed

kaia wasnt usually one to be persistent when listening to others, mainly because she just wanted the conversation to end, though with kenny it was different

they'd only know each other for a day, and yet kaia felt so connected to him. she wanted to make sure he was okay and happy, which was unusual.

"fine, fine. im hanging out with lia tonight at the park" kenny told her, letting his large smile shine through

his words made kaia furrow her brows, "but... lia said she was having a movie night with her parents tonight ?" kaia thought out loud

kenny shook his head, "its probably because she doesnt want anyone to know. we're um... gonna be cosplaying some characters" kenny admitted

kaia shrugged. maybe lia did mention it ? kaia just naturally tended to tune her friends out so kaia couldnt be for sure

"well, that sounds cool. do you want me to come with you, just incase ?" kaia offered. something about kennys plans were throwing her off

the boy denied the offer, "no, thats okay. i kinda just want it to be me and her..." he trailed off, causing kaia to gasp as she connected the dots

she dropped her sandwich down on the paper bag, "you like lia !" kaia exclaimed, a little louder than intended but she didnt notice

kenny's eyes went wide as he reached over the lunch table, slapping his hand over kaia's mouth. "keep it down !" he scolded

kaia leaned back so her face was too far for him to reach, "i dont blame you. lia is the nicest one out of the bitch cult. i should know, im in it."

"you're in the bitch cult ?" kenny repeated in shock, since they'd started hanging out, kenny had began to pick up on kaia's lingo

the girl covered her face in her hands, "only because i had no one else ! but now that you're here, i dont need them anymore" she told him

her words made kenny smile, "we're each others first friend" he pointed out, kaia nodding along with him.

kenny held out his fist, "first friends" he said, waiting for kaia to respond

kaia rolled her eyes softly while cracking a smile, "first friends" she repeated, bumping her fist with kennys, making the boy smile

the bell rang, ending the friends conversation. "see you in p.e, let me know how tonight goes !" kaia told him, slinging her backpack over her shoulder and walking away from the table

kenny watched her walk away with a small smile, he actually made a friend.
