The vibrant energy of Bangkok filled our home tonight. The city's neon lights cast a warm, inviting glow through the windows, perfectly setting the stage for my brother Kwan Archen's pre-graduation party. At 18, I felt a mix of nervousness and excitement as I joined the celebration my eldest brother Rayn Archen had insisted I attend.

As I descended the grand staircase, the living room unfolded before me like a scene from a movie-elegant dresses, sharp suits, and the gentle hum of conversation. My eyes scanned the crowd, searching for familiar faces. That's when I saw him-

He stood by the buffet table, effortlessly drawing attention with his charismatic presence. His smile was warm, and his laughter seemed to make the room sparkle. I couldn't help but be captivated. Despite my efforts to focus on the party, my eyes kept drifting back to him. Each time we made eye contact, my heart would skip a beat.

Dinner was served, and I was seated at a table far from where Riki was mingling. My attempts to engage in conversation were half-hearted at best, as my thoughts kept wandering back to him. Each time I looked in his direction, I felt a rush of warmth and excitement. When he glanced my way, I quickly looked away, only to find myself sneaking another peek moments later.

Rayn, noticing my distraction, leaned over and whispered, "Aaradhya, are you okay? You seem a bit out of it."

I forced a smile and nodded. "Yeah, just enjoying the party."

He raised an eyebrow, clearly not convinced but didn't press further. I was grateful for that, as my attention was immediately drawn back to Riki, who was now deep in conversation with a group of our guests.

As dessert was being served, I stole another glance. To my surprise, Riki seemed to notice. He started walking toward me, and my heart raced with a mix of panic and anticipation. I nervously fiddled with my napkin, trying to calm my fluttering heart.

When he reached my table, his smile was gentle and inviting. "Hi there," he said, his voice smooth and warm.

"I couldn't help but notice you glancing over here a few times.

My cheeks flushed a deep red, and I stammered, "Oh, um, hi. I was just... just enjoying the party, really."

Riki's smile widened, clearly amused. "I'm Nishimura Riki," he said, extending his hand. "And you are?"

Caught off guard and overwhelmed, I barely managed to whisper, "I'm Aaradhya Archen. Nice to meet you."

His eyes twinkled with genuine interest. "Nice to meet you too, Aaradhya."

I tried to hold his gaze, but the intensity of the moment was almost too much to bear. I could feel my face burning with embarrassment and excitement.

"I-I should go," I stammered, feeling suddenly shy. "Excuse me."

Without waiting for his response, I quickly turned and made my way outside to the garden. The cool air helped soothe my flushed cheeks as I leaned against the garden wall, trying to steady my breathing. The twinkling city lights of Bangkok seemed to echo my own turbulent emotions.

The next morning, the day of the graduation ceremony, dawned bright and clear. I dressed in a beautiful short frock, feeling both excited and anxious. As I arrived at the graduation venue, the atmosphere was filled with anticipation. I scanned the crowd, searching for Riki.

As I wandered through the gathering, I overheard Kwan talking with Riki. My heart sank as I caught snippets of their conversation.

"... heading back to Japan tomorrow?" Kwan asked, his tone casual but with a hint of sadness.

"Yes," Riki replied. "I'll be leaving right after the ceremony."

My heart ached at the realization. I hadn't expected the news to hit me so hard. I had barely gotten to know him, yet the thought of him leaving so soon felt like a heavy blow.

I continued to search for Riki, hoping to see him one last time before he left. When I finally spotted him, my heart leaped at the sight. He was standing with a group of friends, laughing and talking. I watched from a distance, unable to muster the courage to approach him.

The ceremony was beautiful, but I couldn't shake the sadness that lingered. I had been so excited for the chance to see him again, only to find out that our time together would be so brief. The graduation, which was supposed to be a celebration, felt overshadowed by the knowledge of his impending departure.

As I watched the graduates receive their diplomas, I couldn't help but think about how fleeting moments can be. The day was beautiful, but for me, it was tinged with the bittersweet realization that the connection I had felt with Riki was about to end before it could truly begin.

After the ceremony, I found myself wandering aimlessly through the venue, lost in thought. I felt a hand on my shoulder and turned to see Rayn.

"You okay, Aaradhya?" he asked, his eyes filled with concern.

"I'm fine," I lied. "Just thinking about a lot of things."

Rayn nodded, understanding. "I know it's a big day. Seeing Kwan graduate... it's a lot to take in."

"Yeah," I agreed, though my thoughts were far from the graduation. I couldn't shake the image of Riki's smile, his eyes twinkling with interest. It felt like there was so much left unsaid between us, so much potential that would now go unfulfilled.

As the crowd began to disperse, I caught one last glimpse of Riki. He was standing near the entrance, talking with some friends. He glanced my way and, for a moment, our eyes met. There was a hint of sadness in his expression, but also a warmth that made my heart ache.

I wanted to run to him, to tell him how I felt, but the words caught in my throat. Instead, I simply watched as he turned and walked away, leaving me with a mix of emotions that I couldn't quite process.

The ride home was quiet. Rayn and Kwan chatted about the ceremony, their excitement palpable. I sat in the back, staring out the window, lost in my thoughts. The city lights blurred as tears welled in my eyes. I wiped them away quickly, not wanting my brothers to see.

When we arrived home, I went straight to my room. The events of the day replayed in my mind, each memory tinged with the bittersweet feeling of what could have been. I sat by the window, looking out at the twinkling lights of Bangkok, and let myself cry.

It was a quiet, private moment of sorrow and longing. I allowed myself to feel the weight of the missed opportunity, the fleeting connection with Riki that had slipped through my fingers. In my heart, I held onto the hope that maybe, someday, our paths would cross again.

For now, I had the memories of our brief encounter, the warmth of his smile, and the sparkle in his eyes. It was enough to keep the hope alive, enough to make me believe that this wasn't the end, but just the beginning of something new.
