Going cold, they say it's a shield
A protection from the hurt that's real
But it's more than that, it's a disguise
A mask that hides the pain in your eyes
You push everyone away, a defense mechanism strong
Afraid to let them in, where you've been wrong
You've had so much hurt, it's hard to know
How to love again, how to let it show
You lose yourself in the process, a piece of your soul
A fragment of your heart, a part of your goal
To shield yourself from the pain of the past
But in doing so, you forget how to love at last
You know you love them, but it's hard to express
The words get stuck, the feelings repress
You're trapped in a cycle, a vicious spin
Afraid to let go, afraid to give in
But love is the answer, the key to unlock
The chains that bind you, the heart that's blocked
It's a risk worth taking, a chance to redeem
to learn to love again, to heal and beam
So don't give up, don't lose your way
Keep searching for the love that's still in play
It's hidden deep, but it's still there
A spark that glows, a love that cares.
