Chapter 4

Kenny grabbed a banana, water, and chocolate. She was quite the hungry one.

Kenny hurried back to where Lucy was sitting.

"Here you go, sweetie. This should tide you over for now."

He said, offering the food to her.

Lucy's eyes lit up as she saw the food, her mouth watering in anticipation, hastily taking the banana and taking a large bite, her eyes closing in pleasure as the sweet taste filled her mouth.

Kenny chuckled, watching as she eagerly devoured the banana, feeling a sense of contentment at being able to provide her with something as simple but essential as food.

"Not too fast, okay? You don't want to make yourself sick."

He said with a gentle smile.

Kenny kept a watchful eye on Lucy, but he would glance over to the doors, Kyle was devouring a zombie who came way too close to the convenience store.

As Lucy finished her banana, Kenny offered her the water and the chocolate bar.

"Here. Drink some water. It's important to stay hydrated, too."

He said, waiting until she had taken a few sips before passing her the chocolate bar

Lucy's eyes widened as she saw the chocolate bar, a small gasp escaping her lips. She quickly took it and eagerly ripped the wrapper open, taking a large bite.

Kenny chuckled softly as he saw the joy and satisfaction on Lucy's face as she ate the chocolate, feeling a sense of warmth in his heart at being able to provide her with some small comfort in this messed up world.

He turned to check on Kyle, noticing he was still on high alert, his eyes scanning the surroundings for any signs of danger.

Kyle soon came inside, all bloody thanks to his new eating diet. Soon, he was in front of Lucy, making sure she was ok.

"Are you ok, Lucy?"

Lucy had finished her banana and chocolate bar, her face now sticky with chocolate smudges, her eyes still slightly red from crying.

At Kyle's question, she nodded, her voice still a little shaky.

"Y-yeah...I'm okay..."

Kyle looked at his hands, realizing how badly it looked.

"Sorry, I tend to forget that I'm covered in blood. you're safe with us, lucy. i'm gonna make sure nothing happens to you."

Lucy watched Kyle, her eyes widening slightly as she saw the blood stains on his hands. She looked a little frightened, but Kenny's reassuring presence seemed to help her relax a little bit.

She nodded slowly, her small voice trembling slightly. "Th-thank you...for keeping me safe..."

Kyle looked down.
"I don't want to be seen as a monster to you, I'm doing this to keep you and him safe. you get that, right?"

Lucy studied Kyle for a moment, her gaze lingering on the blood stains on his hands. She clearly looked a little afraid, but there was a hint of understanding in her expression as well.

"I...I understand."

She said quietly, averting her eyes from the blood.

Kyle perked up from the sound of something. He ran out, and there were some sounds before silence, Kenny knew it was Kyle probably eating a zombie. He saw how the sun was slowly falling. "It's time for bed, Lucy.." He patting her head softly.

"You should get some rest, kiddo."

He glanced around, wondering where she would have her sleep for the night, knowing they couldn't let her sleep out in the open with those things lurking around, but the store didn't exactly have any beds
