What exactly do you miss?

After cutting them off, you may
Start to forget the bad times,
And only remember the sweet times
Remember the version they could've been
A version that you saw, that you've dreamed
A version that was always just out of reach
A version that you thought would always be in your sight

Do you miss the flowers they never gave
The dates they never planned, the love they never made
Do you missing saying sorry every night
For the feelings they made you feel, the pain they brought to light?

Do you miss the efforts they never made
And the absurd paragraphs they would trade
Do you miss the heartaches they caused each night?
And the times they threw slurs at you with all their might?
Why hold onto the little hope they can change?
When you already know they are the same they used to be.
Do you hold onto this hope because it's easier than letting go?
Maybe you're afraid of the unknown, and that's what you know.
