055: birthday boy

SILENCE.

EERIE, MYSTERIOUS silence strolled through the halls and rooms of the Akabane estate. Karma Akabane, of course, noticed. He stood in the entry way, a bit puzzled, as he took of his shoes.

Then he opened the door wider and let In his new four-pawed roommate. It had been various weeks since karma was forced to take in shota, and he had learned the routine until now.
The dog was still unbelievably annoying. he always looked at karma with big gentle eyes no matter what he did. It felt patronising. Only mina was allowed to do that.

Though he still hadn't taken that much of a liken to Shota, karma had to admit to himself that it was slightly less lonely in his home. Especially at night, god how he hated those lonely Nights.

He sighed, got the dog's leash off and let him scurry into the house as he slowly made his way towards the living room.

Colourful decorations. A play of red, blue, yellow and green. Birthday decoration?

Karma wasn't able to fully process the whole thing, it was only a split second.

Then, Isogai, Maehara, terasaka & Itona, okuda, nagisa & kaede, Rio and.. mina jumped up from various different hiding places. Behind the couch, the counter, behind the wall and on either side of the entrance.

Two loud thumbs were heard as karma widened his eyes. Two confetti canons, held by isogai and maehara, went off and showered karma akabane in silver birthday confetti.

His eyes were fixated on mina and only mina when he was trying to figure the situation out- she laughed her usual laugh, the one he fell in love with, started clapping and then everyone cheered at the same time.

"HAPPY BIRTHDAY!"

Shota seemed to notice mina too. He immediately ran towards her. The brunette adverted her excited eyes from karma and looked down to him, she kneeled and pat his head.

They all laughed, Rio's laugh was especially funky, Itona's was just a smile. However, they all shared the same emotion.

Happiness.

Shared joy is double joy, right?

"What..?" Karma started laughing too, more confused than ever. The same wave of feeling hit him, he looked around and slowly came closer.

"Happy birthday, dude!" Maehara and isogai came back from behind him, with the blonde laying his shoulder around karma. He had the biggest grin ever.

"Yeah, happy birthday!" Isogai, too, smiled sweetly.

And maybe it was only then that it clicked, karma Akabane just got thrown his first suprise birthday party.

He'd always mock and ridicule those episodes on TV, those episodes where the main character gets a surprise party and cries their heart out. They laugh and giggle and it always made no sense to him. But maybe, a tiny little part of karma's soul was currently doing all of the things above.

"What's going on?" Karma grinned uncontrollably, he looked around the room, taking each of his friends' faces in before taking off his coat.

"wall, we're obviously throwing You the most awesome party ever!" Kaede replied, and karma gave her no mind before taking in the birthday room his living room was made into.

"Happy birthday, karma." Nagisa out of all people stepped forward, then he nodded toward the girl on the floor and smiled, "It was all mina's idea, we're just executing it."

At the mention of her name, mina let go off the excited shota and stood up to smile at karma himself.

In his opinion, her smile was the sweetest of them all.
