IT WAS LABOR DAY WEEKEND, and as promised, Dylan arrived to pick Malina up from her house. When she got into the car, she felt a wave of nerves. This was their first time really being alone together. Dylan, too, was feeling the jitters, his palms sweaty on the steering wheel. He had spent the morning mentally preparing for this moment, reminding himself to stay calm.

Malina wore a navy and light blue bathing suit top, baired with jean shorts. She had done her makeup, and her curls flowed freely around her shoulders. Dylan looked at her, a hint of admiration in his eyes. She looked stunning, and he was full of nerves.

"You look nice," he said, his voice sincere.

Malina was taken aback, not expecting the compliment. "Thank you," she replied, a shy smile spreading across her face.

As they drove to the beach, Dylan stole glances at her, noticing the sparkle in her eyes when she laughed.

They had been driving for a bit, the silence between them growing more noticeable. Finally, Malina decided to break it. "I never see you at any parties," She said, glancing at him curiously." Gabriel is always at them. How come you aren't?"

Dylan shrugged, his eyes on the road. "I'm not a huge fan of big events like parties. I'd much rather have a night in. But lately, I've been trying to step outside my comfort zone."

This surprised Malina. The last thing she expected was for him to be a night-in type of guy. "Really? I wouldn't have guessed that."

Dylan chuckled. "Yeah, most people don't,  I know it sounds boring but I like quieter nights. It's just how I am."

Malina smiled, feeling more at ease. "That's why I loved the beach, it's usually a quiet place I can find peace" she said, her voice brightening. "And hibiscus flowers. They're my favorite."
