Author's Note: This is something that came to me when I was writing for the newest chapter of my story Legacy of Youth which I'm planning to update soon. This takes place during the same universe as my Legacy of Youth story but a couple months prior. I hope you enjoy it and please let me know if you have any ideas for one-shots or short stories based in this universe that you would like to see. I have quite a few ideas I've been playing with.

Something was wrong. Something was very wrong. It was quiet. Too quiet. The hideout was never this quiet. At least it hadn't been for almost 4 years now ever since Mal had been born. The fact that it was quiet was sending shivers down Evie's spine. She couldn't pinpoint what it was but she knew something was very off.

Her mind was all foggy and her lungs felt like they were burning as she tried to take a breath. She didn't understand why her body was reacting this way. She wasn't sick, this wasn't a sickness feeling. It was something else. Evie quickly scanned around the hideout trying to figure out what could possibly be causing this feeling.

Carlos was sitting playing with his inventions again, Jay was looking through his stash, and Mal... wait where was Mal. That's when it finally hit her the reason the hideout was so quiet. "Where's Mal!" Evie quickly called out her voice raising in panic as her eyes quickly started darting around the room in search of the small girl.

"Wait, is she not with you?" Both boys responded back before quickly jumping up and joining Evie in her search. "Does it look like she's with me!" Evie practically growled out. Evie didn't like getting to this point. It wasn't very princess-like to act this way but she couldn't help it. Her baby girl was missing.

Evie didn't know what she would do if she lost Mal. She was supposed to protect her. She was supposed to keep her safe. This wasn't supposed to be happening. Her mother was going to be furious with her. Evie could already feel the punishments now and Maleficent was going to kill them all. Most importantly she was failing Mal. She had promised herself she would never let anything happen to Mal yet here she was.

She was supposed to be watching her but she had gotten distracted with her sewing. This was all her fault. "I don't think she's here," Carlos quickly called out after having searched almost the entire hideout and yet saw no signs of the small purple haired child.

"I'm gonna check the Marketplace, maybe she went exploring," Jay responded back, trying his best to still sound tough and confident, not wanting to freak out the other two. He knew how much Evie and Carlos both worried.

They all knew how dangerous the Isle could be. Especially for a small child that was vulnerable and all alone. He was honestly freaking out himself right now. The thought of something happening to his little genie lamp was too much, but the last thing they needed was for Evie or even Carlos to shut down right now.

Mal was missing. Their baby vk was god knows where right now so all three needed to be alert until they could find her. Evie slowly nodded the back of her throat starting to burn from the tears she was trying to hold back. She couldn't cry, she would ruin her make-up and princesses don't cry.

Her mother's voice kept ringing in her head over and over again. "Come on Evie we'll find her. It'll be okay," Carlos whispered sitting down by the older girl who was now on her knees furiously rummaging through all the junk they kept in the hideout. She seemed to be lost in her own mind right now not even noticing his presence.

"E come on you have to calm down. We'll find her," Carlos continued on seeing his blue haired friend in such distress. Her breathing labored as she continued to furiously tear apart their little home. "No! We need to find her now! We can't lose her!" Evie shrilled the tears finally breaking through.

Carlos watched as Evie finally broke. He wasn't sure how to really react. Normally Evie was the one calming him down, not the other way around, but he knew he had to do something. "And we will. Jay is looking for her out there and we're in here looking too. We'll find her, Evie."

With Carlos' words Evie slowly nodded trying to regain herself. Just as Evie was about to start looking somewhere else again a small noise emerged from one of the vented areas. "Um, did you hear that?" Carlos asked Evie who slowly nodded her hands cautiously reaching for one of her knives as she motioned for Carlos to hide.

She didn't know who or what made that sound but she couldn't be too careful. Slowly Evie tiptoed her way over to the vented area. Her heart continuing to race the closer she got. Just as Evie had gotten close enough the vent above her bed began to push open causing her to quickly jump back.

Her slender fingers gripping tightly onto her knife preparing herself for what was to come. "I win!" A small squeaky voice squealed out. Evie immediately dropped the knife. She knew that sweet little voice anywhere.

It belonged to the tiny purple haired green-eyed toddler that had stolen Evie's heart. "Mal?" Evie called out wanting to be sure she wasn't just imagining things. Evie sometimes found herself "hearing" Mal's voice even when she wasn't there.

"You no find me so I win," the same voice exclaimed from the vent. "Okay Mal just stay there do not move," Evie ordered her eyes quickly darting in search of something she could use to help her reach the vent. If Mal fell from that height she could get seriously injured.

Evie honestly didn't know how Mal managed to get into that vent in the first place. It was way too high up for the small girl to reach.

"No I do it! I no need help," Mal declared, her tiny hands pushing on the vent with all her might. "Mal no just let me get you down," Evie quickly replied, still in her authoritative tone. She knew Mal liked to prove herself, but she didn't want Mal to get hurt.

Before Evie could finish looking for something to help her get Mal down the vent finally pushed all the way in. Mal's small form flying out. "Mal!" Evie shrieked as she quickly ran towards the purple haired toddler. Her arms raised up in the air.

"Please catch her. Please catch her. Please catch her," Evie kept repeating in her head over and over again. Her eyes closed, not being able to look. "Yay again!" The small voice squealed once more. Evie slowly opened her eyes, the air finally filling her lungs again. Mal was okay. She was safe.
