(Sorry for the long chapter)
Eating disorders and drug addictions don't just appear out of nowhere, nor do they occur in people who didn't have a reason to begin with. Bullying, abuse, or even peer pressure can lead to these things, and I highly encourage anyone going through this to seek help. With that said, this is how Hyunjin and Felix's EDs began.
Eight grade year, Felix had moved one year prior and was switching schools due to bullying, while Hyunjin moved along with his dance company to a small town in the US. Hyunjin's dad lived not far from where they were either, maybe an hour or so. While he didn't particularly enjoy going over there, it wasn't a complete nightmare. His mom knew some people in the area so she wasn't completely alone. She even had a job lined up. But back to the main story. It was the first day of eighth grade year, and both Hyunjin and Felix were the new kids. Hyunjin woke up at 5:47 A.M. sharp, making a pot of coffee and getting himself dressed in dark jeans, converse, and a band tee. While Felix woke up at 6:30, hesitantly getting out of bed and dragging himself to the bathroom. He hadn't gotten much sleep. He was in the kitchen picking at a plate of eggs his sister had made him, too tired to be hungry. He noticed a boy walking with a school bag down the street. It was 7:20 A.M. and the school opened their doors at 7:30. Curious, Felix quickly through on his shoes, leaving the house in a pair of baggy cargo jeans and a hoodie. Felix fallowed at a distance, beginning to realize how creepy he was being and immediately regretting this whole thing. Meanwhile, Hyunjin was just walking the path to school, his headphones loudly playing angsty teen music as one does. Hyunjin walked into the school grounds, directly outside the door was a bench, and there sitting was two people. A black girl who was fairly short plump, and sitting next to her was a tall albino guy, fairly skinny for his height. They were polar opposites, but they seemed to be good friends. Hyunjin walked by them, giving a small smile while quickly walking into the building. Felix wasn't far behind, giving a large smile and nod while walking into the building. Hyunjin took a seat at a table, alone sitting on his phone when Felix came and sat at the other end of the table on the opposite side. They didn't speak and quite honestly didn't even look at each other. That was until the two kids from outside came and sat in between them. The girl spoke first, "My names Natallia, you two are new right?" Hyunjin looked up, quickly glancing around, stopping at Felix for a moment before nodding. "Uh..yeah I'm new." Hyunjin said quietly, going back to his phone. Felix just nodded at the question, though he seemed more for conversation than Hyunjin did. "Do you guys have your schedules? If not, I can bring you to the guidance office." Jackson, the taller boy spoke up. Hyunjin looked up for a moment, but Felix spoke before he could say anything, "That'd be great." Felix stood up and motioned for Hyunjin to fallow. Reluctantly, he did so, standing up and placing his phone in his pocket fallowing the two kids up the guidance office.
Later in the day at lunch, Hyunjin was sitting at the edge of a table picking at his food. Felix sat down across from him. "You're Hyunjin right? I heard it while we were in first block calling role. I'm Felix if you didn't know." Hyunjin looked up from his food, slightly caught off guard by his heavy Australian accent. "Hyunjin, yeah..Felix..I think I remember from this morning, yeah." He straightened his posture slightly as he spoke. "You're new here too then. I've lived hear for a little over a year, just at a different school." Felix explained, picking at his food as he did so. "I just moved last week with my dance company...From Korea." Hyunjin began picking at his food as well. The conversation continued, and about halfway through lunch, "There you guys are, we thought you had a different lunch." Natallia appeared out of nowhere from behind Hyunjin, Jackson not far behind. The pair sat down, entering the conversation. They talked about their class schedules and mostly school related stuff until the bell rang. The rest of the day passed by with minimal interactions between the four. The day ended and everyone broke off into their own groups, the four reuniting and walking home together, as they all four lived fairly close together.
Months passed bye and they're all four quite close now. They even fixed up the old treehouse in the backyard of Hyunjin's house and made it their hang out spot. It was a Saturday, and they'd all planed on hanging out together. At this point Hyunjin's mom hadn't been acting normal. She was stressed, irritable, and had been going out at night and not coming home until sunrise. But Hyunjin didn't interfere much, he couldn't, so he just let it slide. But his was no doubt having in effect on him, he somehow felt like it was his fault, so he stopped doing anything. He stopped leaving his room, and also stopped taking care of himself. He stopped eating, he didn't really drink anything aside from sugary energy drinks or coffee and only left the house when he was going to hang out with his friends. Now even they were starting to notice. They met up like usual, it was a mildly cold day, so everyone was in some warm clothing, hoodies, joggers, beenie hats, and things if that such. They met at a coffee shop down the road, sitting in a booth in the corner. "So how has everyone been lately, we haven't spoken much" Felix sat down with his cup of coffee next to Hyunjin and across from Natallia and Jackson. "Same as usual." Hyunjin said leaning back in the booth seat. "I've been at Natallia's place pretty much all week" Jackson laughed slightly as Natallia nodded, confirming his statement. They spoke for a bit before deciding to go back to the treehouse. They made their way over there, walking through the barren streets of their small town, laughing and having a good time. They were sitting in the treehouse, Hyunjin and Felix sitting on a bean bag together going through Hyunjin's sketchbook while Natallia and Jackson played a game of chess. Eventually it got late, Natallia and Jackson went home, but Felix was staying over, so they both went inside and sat in Hyunjin's room. "I've got an odd question for you." Felix was lying in the floor, working a puzzle while Hyunjin was looking for something to watch on TV. "Sure, what's up?" Hyunjin didn't even look away from the TV while he answered. "How've you lost so much weight so fast? I mean it can't be healthy, right?" Felix sat up, sitting next to Hyunjin now. "I don't know. I just did I guess." Hyunjin avoided eye contact, he knew he wasn't eating, and he knew that was why he was losing so much weight so fast. Though, something he wouldn't admit even to himself, he wanted to go further with it. "I don't think what you're doing is healthy..I think you're not eating enough." Felix put it bluntly, it was the only way to get him to speak up. "Okay? People undereat all the time, it's fine." Hyunjin continued to avoid eye contact, keeping his gaze glued to the TV. "Sure, they do, but those people are nowhere near healthy..Diets sure, but you've lost a significant amount of weight fairly quickly...I don't think you're alright. I'm not mad, I just want you to admit you're not okay." Felix rested his head on Hyunjin's shoulder, he knew what was going on, and if it was true, he wanted to know. "Okay, maybe I do have a problem. Maybe I'm not eating how I should be, but it's fine." Hyunjin kept saying that it was fine, but clearly it wasn't. At that Felix let it go and they spent the rest of the night just being teenagers.
Sometime in the weeks to fallow, Felix also started to drop weight, which was odd considering he had a fairly muscular build just naturally. One day, they all decided to go out for lunch together, an all you can eat place which was Hyunjin's worst nightmare. He couldn't decline though; it'd raise too much suspicion. They all sat down; plates stacked with greasy, high fat foods. Hyunjin picked at his food, trying to talk as much as he could so he didn't have to eat more than a plate or two. Felix though, he was scarfing down food, going back for plate after plate until he was uncomfortable. "I'll be back in a minute guys." Felix stood up, walking to the bathroom. Hyunjin waited a moment before fallowing, walking in and hearing a mixture of gags and coughs. "Ew, I could never be bulimic. Good for you though I guess" Hyunjin leaned against the sink wincing slightly, grossed out by the idea. " Yeah..It's not for the faint of heart. Give me a minute and I'll be out." Felix said befor going back to puking. "I'll be at the table.." Hyunjin walked out before he puked, except not on purpose. A few minutes later, Felix sat back down, sipping on his drink.
