"In the mist of nothing, there is something"

                                                                            CHAPTER I

On a Friday evening, like all young girls trying to make their lives better, Emily was juggling both work and college. Complying with both schedules wasn't an easy task, but she was managing well.

The evening felt quietly lonely as she walked down the road in her light blue flared jeans and an orange peplum top, mesmerizing songs playing as she increased the volume on her earphones. She walked like a lost soul, burdened by so much within her that kept battling unanswered.

"Hmmm," she breathed, sorrow glistening in her eyes as tears began to fall. It felt so far to go back. The gentle evening wind seemed to recognize her breaking heart as it caressed her hair warmly. Struggling to hold back her tears, she let them fall freely as she sat on a big rock near the engine station, where her face wouldn't be noticed by passing passengers.

"Rrrrr," her phone rang, interrupting her moment. She hurried to check who was calling, torn between picking up or letting it go.

"Emily?" Lucy's voice came through, filled with worry and confusion.

"Lucy," Emily mumbled, unable to bear the hurt. She felt like she was collapsing while trying not to show it.

"Where are you?" Lucy asked breathlessly. She knew Emily was never weak or easy to break down, and she sensed this time was serious. She needed to be there at all costs.

"At the engine," Emily responded, her voice barely a whisper, stuck in her throat.

The world felt like it was ending in her sight. Confused and filled with too many questions, she wondered who she could turn to for answers.

"Sham," she thought. He was the only one to fill the void in her, full of unanswered questions.

                                                                                 CHAPTER II

Emily felt a mix of excitement and nervousness as she shared the news with her stepmom about getting the job at the coffee shop. Her stepmom's smile was wide, and her words were filled with encouragement. "That's great, honey! I'm so proud of you!" she said, her voice cheerful. But Emily noticed a flicker of something else in her stepmom's eyes, a shadow that hinted at deeper feelings.

As the days went by, Emily saw her stepmom's true feelings surface in subtle ways. Instead of celebrating her new job, her stepmom would often mention how much she needed help around the house. "You know, there are always dishes to wash and laundry to fold," she would say, her tone light but laced with an unspoken expectation. It was clear that, deep down, her stepmom preferred the idea of Emily staying home, helping with household chores rather than working outside.
