Soon enough it was time for bed and Dorian had given me the room next to him. I crawled into bed feeling content, I never wanted to leave but.... I knew I had to leave eventually but for now I needed sleep.....
A vision dream? But Dorian is literally in the room next to me?
"Worry not little one, this dream isn't about your little boyfriend." The shadow who I now knew to be Zander responded to my thoughts. "Though you still need to save him from his little castle prison, you can do that after this first quest of yours. I have seen the future and I'm here to tell you how your little adventure will end, are you ready to hear your fate?" I instantly nodded even though I knew not what he'd reveal. " When the moon shines blue you shall break my chains to find me changed,
You shall be betrayed by one you trust using your strength against you,
You'll find the history to be different then known,
And you'll find strength in the unfamiliar." His words confused me. Fire spread around me and I got lunged into the waking.
Dorian sat beside my bed. "I heard you thrashing about in bed, are you alright my dear?" I shook my head and hid it in my hands. "Wanna talk about it or-" I pulled him into a hug which took him by surprise but he hugged back. "How about... how about I stay here and cuddle you to sleep?" My cheeks filled with red and I nodded, I didn't want to talk, I just wanted to stay in his arms forever. No prophecies, no responsibilities. I started to doubt if I actually wanted a quest, did I really want adventure, is this what my life was meant to be? All my thoughts melted away when Dorian planted a small kiss on my cheek. "Calm down my dear, you need to stop stressing so much." He whispered into my ear, his voice was lower than before, I could hear how tired he was. I snuggled my face into his chest and I fell asleep to the sweet sound of his calm breathing and his soft heartbeats. Luckily I had no other dreams.
I awoke in Dorian's arms so I decided not to move, I didn't wanna wake him. A black cat with the same yellow eyes as Dorian jumped onto the bed and hissed at me which woke Dorian. He picked up the cat and put it on the floor. "Be nice to our guests Zana, they'll be staying for a while." He said and as if the cat understood him the cat meowed and left. "So how are you feeling dear?" He asked as he turned to me.
"Better." I didn't feel better but I didn't want him to worry. Turns out he could tell I was lying.
"The truth isn't that hard to say dear, will more cuddles help?" he offered, which I accepted with a simple nod, he climbed back into bed and let me snuggle into his soft chest again. We laid there for another few hours before Fabian came in and practically dragged us out of bed for breakfast and more boring studies. I stayed quiet the whole time which Fabian soon noticed.
"Are you quiet because of a dream or does it have to do with why I found you two in the same bed?"
"Dream.."
"Alright, tell me everything kid."
I told him everything that Zander had told me in my dream. I was quite nervous and didn't know how Fabian and Dorian would react mostly to the fact that we couldn't help Dorian until after finding the princesses. Luckily Dorian seemed alright with it and Fabian seemed overjoyed by the line in the prophecy about Zander getting freed. His joy was short lived however, when he heard 'You shall be betrayed by one you trust using your strength against you' he started thinking.
"That could mean almost anything. Who would betray you?"
"I don't know, all I know is that it's meant to be someone I trust." Dorian soon cut back into the conversation.
"What about history being different than we think?" He questioned. I obviously didn't know either and we pondered it whil;e Dorian made eggs and bacon with a side of potatoes for breakfast. Once he got back I noticed he had an extra plate that he put down in front of an empty chair which the cat jumped on. This made Fabian's face fill with confusion just like mine. "Zana please, we have guests. Could you take your normal form, just this once sister I promise they're alright."
"You always say that." The cat spoke and turned into a humanoid version of herself, still a cat though. Her eyes still the same golden colour as Dorian's and her fur still as raven black as his hair which now made the fact that he called her his sister make more sense. Fabian and I were both still in deep shock but after some introductions we calmed down. She told us that she shared a mother with Dorian but had a different father which seemed slightly obvious based on appearances. It came to my mind that she'd probably get along really well with Allura. We all ate breakfast and got back to studies and planning. Dorian could supply us with more and better food and drinks, we could train a bit and Dorian could help me perfect a bit of the magic that I had.
There was a big stadium in the weird castle cave, it was filled with weapons and training dummies. "Alright let's do this shorty." He nodded at me as a sign to start. "Let's start with the basic spells to figure out your element." After trying fire, earth, wind, animals, shadow, light and pretty much everything besides two kinds we decided to try transformation which had me try to transform myself into anything that came to mind. Turns out that I could as long as it wasn't a big transformation, small animals were easy but nothing bigger than a wolf.
"Don't worry, once you get used to your powers you'll be able to become bigger. Now let's see if plant magic also works for you."
I nodded and concentrated on the ground while thinking of a flower, a beautiful daylily sprouted, its colour the same as Dorian's eyes.
"Wonderfully done Wyot." Dorian picked the flower and gave it to me, making my heart skip a beat.
"Thank you." I smiled as I took the flower and put it on my outfit. He smiled back and took me to the armoury. He handed me a wooden staff with mountain crystals on the top most end of it.
"This belonged to the mage that used to help heal and defend my family, now that he's gone I think that you deserve it." His words seemed pained as he spoke about his old caretaker. He handed the staff to me which I carefully took and the moment that I did it started to glow a bright white light.
"Holy shit!" I dropped the staff out of shock, Dorian caught it before it could hit the ground and held it back up to me.
"It's okay, that's what it's supposed to do." He carefully handed it to me again and I took it again as it started glowing again. "It's meant to help you control your powers but also strengthen them."
Turns out that while I was training magic with Dorian, Fabian was studying prophecies in the library. When I asked him what he had found he answered simply that he had found nothing on my prophecy, hearing this Dorian grabbed a different book and handed it to Fabian. The book was dark as night and had the title written in golden. 'Ancient curses and how to break them' seeing Fabian's confused look Dorian spoke, "Perhaps finding out how to break this shadow man's curse will be best for now." He flipped to a certain chapter on transformation curses. Turns out it was a curse of jealousy, cast usually by those who seek love that they can't have, sadly there was no known curse breaker. Fabian teared up a bit but choked back his tears. I hugged him closely.
"Don't worry dad, we'll find a way." My words made him smile a tiny bit.
"Thanks kid." With that we decided to all go to the kitchen to pack food for the journey ahead, Dorian gave us a few potions of healing as well which were rare but not so much that you wouldn't expect a castle like this to have any.
"I'm going with." Zana demanded sharply. She gave Dorian a certain look which he seemingly couldn't refuse.
"Fine but be careful sister and take care of our new friends will you?" To that she nodded. I felt kind of hurt by being called a friend rather than anything else, I wanted to be so much more. Dorian hugged Zana and then me, I didn't wanna let go of that hug, it felt too good to be held like that but eventually he let go.
"Be careful out there little guy." He planted a small kiss on my cheek making me feel all fuzzy inside.
"I.. uhm.. We will, and I promise we'll come back to you afterwards." I stuttered, why did I have to stutter?
