It was the dream that started it all for Castiel.

Maybe it was the dream that ended it too.

After he was accepted into the sky, everything was peaceful, for the most part. There were still demons to hunt and vampires to kill, of course, but Cas was no longer being hunted. There was no more drama with heaven or angel radio or anything like that. Everything was done. Clean slate. So be it. After all, he never even died right.

But 2 things still remained. And that was Xerces and Kaneda.

It was hard to pinpoint exactly who or what Xerces was. Kaneda was much simpler. Kaneda was an angel statue. Very old and very beautiful. She protected and watched over everything and everybody. But most importantly, Cas.

But Xerces...whatever it was, was elusive. It was enigmatic. It was today. It was tomorrow. It was the smell of a murdered animal's blood in the woods. It was the shadow of an owl. Cas did not know what to make of Xerces. Who would? In his broken mind, he tried to pin Xerces like a butterfly, but the pin merely went through, and away Xerces flew.

Nobody could imagine what it was like for the ex-angel. It was like being re-born, but at the same time not. It was indescribable.

There he stood, in the white room, nothing but boxers on, he felt ashamed, but there was nobody else around.

The next thing he knew, he was outside, in the regular old clothes he always wore. The hospital bracelets were gone...except that his trenchcoat was missing. He was still feeling weak, he was cured of all his mental illnesses!! Or so he thought...

It appeared that he was still severely underweight, and he found himself still seeing the world in his old ways. Damn, schizophrenia. But there was something new. A different voice. Not like before. This voice was really powerful. Could the Xerces be that voice?

Cas once again found himself somewhere new. But it was not exactly unfamiliar. He knew it all too well.

Outside of the bunker.

 Smoke the toenails and hair of the Wiseman.

That is what he was hearing Xerces say. He sat on the ground, his heart racing. He prayed that Sam and Dean would not come outside. {Why can't I just remain dead?} He thought. And then he thought {Wait...that is disgusting. Why would I smoke somebody's hair or toenails? And who is this Wiseman?}

You live under a black God's thumb.

There that voice was again!! {What black God?}

You and your pitiful pets that you call your 'friends' dance like puppets.

Cas just sat there, swallowing back nausea while his heart beat faster.

She bleeds orgasm in technicolor.

Cas cringed. He did not want to hear that kind of stuff.

An ocean of alien mystery.

{What ocean? What alien mystery?}

You eat the Wiseman's eyes.

Not that damn Wiseman again. Who the hell could he be?! Cas was no cannibal.

You might see the darkness if you kill the lights fast enough.

Cas tried ignoring it but it was impossible. Even more so than trying to ignore Lucifer.

You eat the brain and pray.

Cas felt sick. This voice was making him seem like a cannibal.

You pray that your eyes can open wide enough.
