Seonghwa was fighting back a yawn. He sat up straighter in his chair to try to shake off some of the tiredness that was so heavy in his body.
The monthly meeting of angels had gone on longer than usual, and Seonghwa had a much harder time than usual paying attention as the Archangel droned on and on.
Seonghwa's mind wandered to other things.
Things he shouldn't be thinking of.
Things like platinum hair and dark brown eyes, a sultry voice and a pretty smile...He and Hongjoong had met up quite a few times since the angel had agreed to work with the demon. They always started their conversations with the ideas they'd come up with to go toe to toe with the Angel Order, reviewing anything that came to them in the days they hadn't seen each other.
However, without fail, by the second half of the meetup they were not being productive at all. The two would fall into all kinds of distractions, and before long they'd be chatting about all different topics, and laughing, and sharing the food on their plates with the other.
Their continued interactions did nothing to hinder the blooming unnamed feelings in Seonghwa's chest.
Seonghwa didn't allow himself to think too much about it.
Well, he tried."...And we'd just like to warn you all that demon sightings have grown more frequent in the last few months."
The Archangel's voice pricked his consciousness and Seonghwa was thrown out of his daydreams.
All of the sudden, the familiar face that was at the center of all of Seonghwa's thoughts was being projected on the large screen in front of the meeting room. It was so shocking that it took Seonghwa a second to register that it was real. The angel sucked in a breath, and realized too late that it was audible to those around him.
"Do you know this demon?" Asked an angel on his left.
Seonghwa was immediately on guard, defensive. He tempered his reaction to remain as neutral as possible.
"I... I've seen that face before. He interrupted one of my missions.""Has he ever approached you?" The Archangel had overheard and came closer to Seonghwa's desk to ask.
Seonghwa shook his head.
"No." He lied. "I only remember seeing him from afar." Seonghwa's heart was beating faster than he wanted it to. "He seemed dangerous, so I stayed away." He looked at the Archangel, feigning innocence. "What did he do?"The Archangel seemed content with Seonghwa's answer and he walked back towards the front of the classroom with his hands clasped behind his back.
"Usually, demons avoid angels, preferring to scheme and cause chaos in the dark." He began, "but this one seems to have some sort of vendetta against us. Reports have been coming in, and multiple angels have testified that this demon has attempted to seduce them to his side with sweet lies and allegations against the Angel Order."
The Archangel punctuated his words with a derisive snort. The wording stuck out to Seonghwa.
The angel felt an ugly pit in his stomach that didn't leave for the rest of the meeting.
When Seonghwa finally got home, the first thing he did was find his phone.
He sent a text to Hongjoong, fingers shaking as he typed out a quick 'Where are you'.
Seonghwa paced his living room while waiting for the demon to text back. It was only a few minutes before his phone lit up with a response but to the angel it felt much longer.
Hongjoong had sent his location and Seonghwa wasted no time taking flight to find him there.Hongjoong was sitting at a table at an outdoor cafe, a large blue and white striped umbrella casting a shadow over him. The wind was playing with his blonde hair and as he spotted the angel coming towards him his eyes lit up.
Then he saw the anger on Seonghwa's face and his expression changed to an apprehensive one. Hongjoong didn't have a chance to even greet him before the angel had pulled him up and dragged him into the alley next to the cafe.
