Epilogue:

Seonghwa had always loved love, but he learned he loved being in love even more.
Hongjoong was truly his match, and if soulmates were real—which he so badly wanted to believe—Seonghwa had found his.

He loved Hongjoong. He loved the way his wild hair fell over his innocent-looking face when he was asleep, the silly smile he'd flash when he was fully relaxed, the care he put into Seonghwa's morning coffee—sweet enough to hide the bitterness.
Seonghwa loved the way they could talk endlessly, tangled up with each other on the couch, but that they understood each other with only a glance. He loved Hongjoong's mind, and his wit and his kind spirit. Seonghwa couldn't get enough of Hongjoong's hands, or his mouth, or his body, and he loved the way he knew that Hongjoong felt the same.

    "My angel."

Seonghwa thought it would sting more when he heard it, but coming from Hongjoong's mouth it was a prayer. He felt sure it would've hurt more to never hear those words again than to have his wings torn off again.
And he would do it again. Just for this. Just for him. His demon.
Hongjoong was exactly what Seonghwa needed and wanted in a single package.

They knew it would be safer if they disappeared, so as soon as Seonghwa had recovered, the two of them began to travel.

For a while they forgot everything of what they used to know, instead filling their lives with new adventures and experiences, and the further discovery of each other.

When Seonghwa began to miss having a permanent home to keep clean and fill with books and legos, he found an apartment on the coast with a coffee shop below.
He presented the idea over a candlelight dinner he had prepared, and Hongjoong was nothing but delighted at the prospect.

Before he knew it, they were making it happen. The color scheme chosen, the menu finalized, the furniture set out just right.

They almost opened late on their very first day because of a runaway kiss they shared after taste testing their official strawberry scone.

They laid low, minding their own business and doing their best to spread kindness and goodness in small ways.

This time they remained far removed from the schemes of the heavens, leaving the games to those who liked to fight unwinnable wars.
Demons, angels, celestial beings—they left these titles in the past.
They learned to live ordinarily as humans.
They had their purpose, they had something to live for.

    They had each other.

The demon's angel, the angel's demon.
    Seonghwa and Hongjoong.
A match forbidden by the heavens.
    Impossibly magnetized by fate.
    Belonging to each other forever.

———

Hongjoong and Seonghwa were tidying up their coffee shop at the end of a long day.
Seonghwa fluffed the couch pillows and vacuumed away pastry crumbs as Hongjoong counted the cash.

Their little seaside town was mostly quiet after dark, so when the bell chimed at the front of the shop, both Hongjoong and Seonghwa looked over in surprise.

A tall man—no, angel stood there in the doorway.

Seonghwa dropped the cushion he was holding and darted to Hongjoong's side, seeing the wild look in the angel's eyes.
No matter what happened, they would face it together this time.

Hongjoong stepped protectively in front of Seonghwa who latched onto his arm.
"You're not welcome here." He said darkly. "Get out."

"Please, please I'm not here to hurt you guys. The opposite, in fact." The angel took a few steps towards them. He didn't look as fierce as he came into the light, he looked desperate, and in pain.

"My name is Yunho," he continued frantically. "And the Angel Order, they..."

    The angel's voice cracked.

"I need your help. He didn't mean to! But then they took him and I can't find him anywhere and... He's not a threat! He works a desk job for god's sake. I'm in the Archangel's inner circle and even I can't find anything out and—"
A terrible sob burst from the tall angel and he seemed to shrink as his head fell and his shoulders shook.
"Oh god, what have they done to you, Mingi?"

The angel, Yunho, didn't look threatening at all anymore, he looked absolutely distraught.

Hongjoong and Seonghwa exchanged looks, reading each other easily and finding themselves in agreement.
"Slow down." Seonghwa said, emerging from behind Hongjoong's protective stance. "Sit. I'll bring you a tea and then you can tell us everything from the beginning."
