Namjoon felt excitement rushing through him as he moved his way through the narrow paths. The sun was about to set and the place was almost dimly lit so he had to work his way through the excavation site quick. The ground was all dust and rocks so he also had to be careful about his steps. Exploring the ancient ruins was always an exciting task for him, something he got from his dad, who is an archaeologist.
But was today any different? Yes.
His father's team had been working on that excavation site for months, but nothing really got to their hands. But there was Namjoon who's instincts were sure that there was something more here, something that's hidden. He moved away from the main dig area, flashing the light around in search of that certain something that his instincts told him about.
That's when the light flashed over a small, basically invisible due to the narrow opening into that rock it was situated into. Now that little object peaked his interest, he made his way towards it, squeezing through the gaps, now standing in the dimly lit tunnel.
Namjoon's heart beat loudly as he walked ahead. The walls closing on him, and just as he was about to turn back the tunnel opened up into a small chamber. The atmosphere in there was cool and everything so still, the silence was deafening. Moving the flashlight around he found the ancient cravings on the walls, and just at the center of that chamber, something shined.
Deciding to approach that object which shone, his breath was caught in his throat. Ahead there was a stone pedestal onto which there was a crystal unlike any he had ever seen. It was almost the size of his palm. It did glow, something which Namjoon never expected for it to do. He then hesitantly reached out to touch it. It glowed with an ethereal blue light that seemed to pulse like an heartbeat.
Now the moment his fingers brushed the crystal, suddenly energy flowed through him. Namjoon stumbled back, and the light from the crystal just went on increasing. While his mind raced with images, certain landscapes, unfamiliar stars and a feeling of being watched. Focuses ahead and quickly wrapping the crystal in a napkin from his bag and puts it in there. The glow of the crystal slightly dimmed but it was visible still.
With trembling hands Namjoon makes his way out of the tunnel. He could feel the crystals energy tingling on his fingertips. After getting out the tunnel, the cool evening breeze hit his face as if asking him to wake up from the dream he just saw. He knew he should tell his to his dad but something held him back. The discovery felt personal and he needed to understand it all by his own first.
By the time he made his way back to his parent's house, it was already dark. He slipped in quietly inside the house, hoping to avoid a lecture for being out for so late. But his mom, caught him in the hallway.
"Namjoon, dinner's ready. Where were you?" His mom asked him, concerned and and a little angry as to why was he so late.
"I'm not hungry, Ma. I'll just go to my room" Namjoon said keeping his voice steady even though he was all shaken from what had happened and what he had seen.
She frowned that he had denied to eat. Without further more questions she lets him be.
He moves to his room and locks it once inside. Pulls out the crystal and places it on the desk. He sat there and stared at the glowing object, questions rushing through in his mind. What was this crystal? Why did it feel so.. alive?
Not waiting any more, he reached out to touch it again. As soon as his fingers made contact with the crystal, a blinding light filled the room. Which had Namjoon covering his eyes, now squinting his eyes through the powerful light, he tries to makes sense of what was happening. Feeling a strange, almost magnetic pull towards the crystal as if it was calling him.
"Namjoon, what have you gotten yourself into?" mumbles to himself.
The light had faded in just a few, leaving Namjoon dumbfounded in the sudden darkness. The crystal was now laying on his desk, all inactive. Rubbing his eyes he felt the bits of the energy still flowing through. He sure now needed answers, but from where?
He spent the whole evening researching on crystals and their properties, but nothing he searched through matched the crystal. He felt uneasy knowing how little he knows about the artifact that was now sitting quietly on his desk. The mystery of the crystal and the connection it tried to show him was increasing every passing minute.
When exhaustion finally took over he fell asleep over his desk, the events that happened through the day played over and over again in his mind, even in sleep he couldn't shake the feeling that his life was about to change in many ways that he couldn't really understand.
But little did he know that this was only the beginning of an adventure that would pass him through the boundaries of Earth, to a world he could have never imagined.
