"What?"
"I said I like you," pag-ulit ko. "As an electoral candidate." Yeah, that must be it. That's the only explanation my mind could ever accept.
"Ohh, is that so?" I don't know, or is it just me? But there's a wave of disappointment in his voice.
I only hummed.
"Well, thanks for the compliment." He grasped his nape and slowly caressed it, tila ba nahihiya. "I truly appreciate it."
"Small thing."
We've then both succumbed to silence as we stood at the front gate waiting for the buses to fetch us. Just when I saw a group of students coming towards us, or to be specific, towards Iago.
"Congrats, tol!" a boy with a wide smile greeted him. They were five in total, three men and two girls.
I turned my gaze away from them since hindi ko naman sila ka-close. But that boy had other plans than completely ignoring my presence.
"Shit, si V-press pala to."
I looked at him, flashing my tight smile. "Your mouth." We're on school grounds, masisita kami kung may makarinig.
He signed a "peace" indicating he's sorry.
"Ayos lang."
"Galing mo, V-press, pwede ka nang maging panelist sa research. Yung mga terror, na mahilig manggisa."
I just smiled at him. "I take that as a compliment."
"Anyway, I'm Davin. HUMSS-section B. Katabi niyo lang na room actually." Makikipagkamay pa sana ito when Iago interrupted him.
"Stop prying on her, Davin. You're not that close," he said.
"Chill lang, boss." Itinaas pa nito ang dalawang kamay na animo'y sumusuko. "Kaya nga nakikipag-close kasi hindi kami close. Everyone, tell me. Mayroon bang nakikipag-close sa ka-close na?"
"Tsk."
When the buses came, doon lang kami nagkaniya-kaniya. But before hovering, I faced Iago. "Good luck," I muttered and nodded at him.
They boarded the other bus while I boarded the first one. Ito ang naunang bumiyahe. Habang nasa likod naman sila.
I fell into immense silence for a while. But then, I rushed into my consciousness when I forgot to text Milfe after the meeting.
She didn't attend as she's too busy with her club for the upcoming Streetdance festival.
"Nasa annex ka na ba? Or naka-uwi na?" Ilang sandali pa, I heard my phone vibrate.
